A unit of work that sees students shipwrecked on a desert Island. They must create a community, rules, rites of passage and festivals before they are saved. The student workbooklet was photcopied back to back and used throughout. Language used refers to “levels” so will need tweaking. Attached are the learning journeys for the AQA Sociology GCSE whole course. I was asked to create these by a customer who had downloaded some of my lessons and wanted to use them for the whole course. These are printed and stuck into the students books at the start of each topic. You can edit and tweak these to suit your own course. They are great, not only at the start of the topic area, but provide students with a revision checklist. Students can cross out/highlight lesson areas when they have revised them. I will eventually add all of the units to accompany these learning journeys. Introduction to sociology, education and social stratification can be found in my shop. A PSHE unit of work that looks at the case study of Malala. This unit is used around Holocaust memorial, preparing students for a school trip to the Holocaust Memorial centre. Lessons look at forgiveness, bystander behaviour and if we can forgive those who contributed to the holocaust. Included is a RAG book tracker and homework activities. Suitable for Year 8 or Year 9.

A great unit of work that looks at religion and chocolate. It firstly starts with how chocolate was used in rituals during Mayan and Aztec ceremonies, followed by the Cadbury brothers who started chocolate shops due to their Quaker beliefs. Finishing with Fairtrade. Lessons are bundled together and sold for a low price as elements of the lessons refer to “levels” language for their differentiation- would take a matter of minutes to tweak. A really fun unit in the run up to Christmas or Easter, or for primary school students who may be studying Chocolate/Fairtrade as a topic area. My old specification lesson resources for the families unit. They are a great set of resources that I am tweaking and adapting for the new spec, but a (cheap) starting point for non-specialists/trainees.

A small unit of lessons to teach PIES for Adolescence. Lessons include a retrieval quiz each lesson, several exam style questions, video clips and an end of life stage assessment and mark scheme.

These are my old AQA specification resources. They still cover all of the same content, and have assessments, group activities planned into them. So lots of lesson ideas. I am in the middle of tweaking and adapting these to the new specification, but these lessons are a great starting point for a non-specialist (and cheap!)

BTEC National Unit 1 Level 3 Lesson 1: This lesson looks at family dysfunction. How this can impact on a child. The lesson also looks at divorce and the Robertson/Bowlby study into child separation, it also covers parenting styles. The lesson finishes with a 10 mark question (that I added to Microsoft Teams). It ended up being a double lesson and taking me around 2 hours to complete due to the amount of discussions we had in the online lesson- also suitable for face to face delivery! Lesson 2: Looks at Sibling Rivalry and mainly focused on an episode of Super Nanny. Students then complete some independent research into bullying and create an information leaflet. Lesson 3: This looks at culture, religion and belief. Students do some research into the main religions and how their beliefs impact their diet and medical interventions. There are some video clips to aid discussion and look at cervical screening in BAME women. Students then complete 2 4 mark questions. I again added this onto Teams as an assignment, but within a classroom setting I would ask them to pick the yellow or green tasks for differentiated learning.
