This is a mini research unit that will be taught ahead of the units (after the introduction unit). It should take approximately 11 lessons to go through the basic research methods. I am aware this is no longer necessary to be taught as an explicit unit, however we feel they need the basic knowledge to be able to answer the questions in the different units. The homework task refers to a knowledge organiser than can be bought in my store. However, the homework task can be completed without it. It’s just our departmental push on the use of them throughout the unit. Lesson 3- Looking at Primary, Secondary, Qual & Quan data. Considering how studies are peer reviewed and evaluated. Exam practice with model answer. Homework Task also prepared.

Planned to be delivered to students studying the AQA Specification A, but easily adapted for other exam boards. I have planned all content to be delivered during an intensive Easter School session, in which the aim is for students to understand the main content of the exam. There is a revision checklist, and some exam answer structure support included at the end of the powerpoint. Also suitable for a school VLE.

AQA New Specification 9-1- Lesson5 School Diversity. I used this lesson as an opportunity to get the students to work in groups to produce either a presentation on sugar paper, a power point presentation or a presentation using the Ipads. It worked really well and I actually got some great display material from it. Alternatively it’s great as a homework activity.

Observations: Participant/Non-Participant, Cover/Overt, Hawthorne Effect, Geoff Pearson Football Hooliganism. Lesson could take 2 hours if you use the documentary(ies) in full, links shared at the end as not used in the lesson. Students observe a clib from CBB and then attempt to write a report to highlight the difficulty with observations. Read resource and complete worksheet and then create their own observation. New Spec 9-1. Included is the progress checkpoint that we complete every 6 lessons, this may suit your assessment schedule as a mini-mid unit assessment. Students complete this as a low-stake, open book assessment where they can see if their notes are of a good enough quality. The feedback lesson includes a whole-class feedback slide, and both 4 mark questions have a model answer. The students highlight and mark this answer, identifying how it is a good answer. They then attempt a new 4 mark question acting on their feedback.

This lesson compares 1950s to 2000s households. Looks at Elizabeth Botts conjugal roles with a considersation of her sample size and if this is a generalisable study. Lesson also uses Talcott Parsons “roles” as an alternative viewpoint. Students then plan their own research into conjugal roles.

New AQA 9-1 specification. A consolidation lesson looking at educational achievement. Internal/external factors, gender, ethnicity and social class. Students use their own book notes to complete an A3 worksheet, but a help sheet is provided if students have missed lessons and require some support. A selection of 12 mark questions are used if students complete. Ideal as a cover lesson, homework task, consolidation lesson before assessment or revision for Y11 before their exam.

Lesson looks at what to expect in the exam, how to tackle a 12 mark question, what is sociology, how is it different to psychology and journalism, and an activity to focus on the key concepts of culture, norms and values. The lesson aims to set Y10 students up ready for the GCSE. New spec 9-1. Introductory lesson looks at the definition of family and household. The starter activity is a quiz that builds up with one question every lesson. So by the end of the unit the starter will be an 18 question quiz. The idea is that the question is something they won’t know/challenging, that they will learn in the lesson. They then answer the same question each lesson, helping them to retain the information as it is repeated each lesson. The question usually focuses on a keyword. If you download please leave a review.
