Run-on sentences is one the most common errors students make in their writing. This lesson will focuses on how to correct them. The students will learn ways to help properly write two complete sentences (independent clauses) in one sentence by using the correct punctuation and conjunctions. PowerPoint & worksheet (with answers) included.

A fun, informative and interactive lesson on writing a letter on the topic of phobias. I have included the top ten phobias on the PowerPoint and a separate Word document. I have also included class discussion questions and a fun personality starter named ‘What Scares You The Most.’ The students love it. There is also lots of info on writing a great letter.

The students love this activity based on the TV game show ‘Catchphrase.’ The students have to guess the TV catchphrases / puzzles. They have 12 to complete! I have included the PowerPoint and the cut-out sheet.

An imformative and fun activity on dreams and nightmares. There are starters on the most common nightmares, most common dreams and facts on sleeping.

PowerPoint and resources on how to get grade 5-7 on the ‘HOW’ questions. This is based on The Silence of the Lambs. This is modern, informative and interactive lesson which the students really enjoy. Model answers included. The questions are, ‘How does the writer make these lines exciting and dramatic?’ and ‘How does the writer increase the tension in this part of the extract?’

The final question on the paper 1 reading exam. This a 10 mark question. Aimed at getting a grade 5-6. Based on The Silence of the Lambs. This is the EVALUATION question. PowerPoint, extract, annotation and model answer included.

Fun starter for any lesson. Everyone sits in a circle. The first player, chosen randomly, says one word out loud. The next player, in clockwise order, has to quickly say a word that has some connection with the previous word. What counts a connection is down to the parliament of players to determine: if somebody doesn’t like a connection, they can challenge it, and everyone votes on whether or not to allow it. In the event of a tie, the word is allowed.
