These resource booklets contain a wide range of age-appropriate, engaging, and meaningful comprehension activities for use in guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of children towards meeting the Year 1 through to Year 6 comprehension expectations within the new National Curriculum framework. Children love learning from these resources, whilst they are also of great use to teachers, as there is explicit information within each task regarding which comprehension strands the task is designed to demonstrate. They are also generic enough to ensure that they are appropriate for use with all texts. The Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6 Booklets (normally 2 pounds each) are all included. I’ve also thrown in a literacy writing mat for free! This Powerpoint and accompanying flash card activity has been designed to guide beginner Arabic students towards learning how to recognise, pronounce, read and write the letters ‘alif’ and ‘nuun’ from the Arabic alphabet. In addition to learning how the form of the letters changes depending upon their position in words, students also build their Arabic vocabulary through recognising and reciting words containing alif and nuun within them. Students also learn how the hamza affects the pronunciation of alif. Combined, this learning furnishes the students with all of the infomation that they need in order to be able to speak and write ‘ana’ (‘I’ or ‘I am’ in Arabic), vital to a wide range of sentences. Included in this pack is: Comprehensive and colourful step-by-step PowerPoint; Bronze silver and gold vocaulary cards (in order to differentiate the flashcard challenge); Worksheets are provided in both PDF (to maintain formatting) and Word (for easy editing). All images are cited on the final slide of the presentation.

This engaging and informative lesson enables students to understand the key features of the historical context of World War I, in order to gain a clearer of understanding of Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful. In particular, students learn about the horrific ordeal faced by young soldiers in WWI, and then relate their understanding of historical context to different plot features throughout the text. The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which children learn through: - Researching and understanding key information about World War I, including enlistment, life in the trenches, and accusations of cowardice; - Linking the key features of context to sections of the text, including descriptions of Tommo’s trench and Charlie’s arrest; - Reading selected extracts from the text, in order to link ideas regarding context and text together; - Creating their own propaganda posters, detailing what war was really like for young soldiers; - Peer assessing each other’s learning attempts; Included is: - Whole lesson PowerPoint - colourful and comprehensive; - Research Template - Links to WWI worksheet (and answer sheet for teachers); - Comprehensive lesson plan. PDFs are included, and Word versions are in the zip file. There are also opportunities for group learning, speaking and listening, peer assessment, and whole class discussion. I originally used these resources with year 7 and 8 classes, however colleagues have used them for between years 3 and 9 with minimal adaptations. Please note that students will need internet or library access to complete the research introduction task. The lesson follows a clear, logical, bite-size learning journey, which guides students towards differentiated learning objectives. Over the course of this journey, they become able to: - Define the key term ‘bravery’ and understand its position as a theme within the plot; - Read the story ‘Perseus and Medusa’ and interpret the key meanings; - Identify, explain, and analyse the key plot elements and themes in ‘Perseus and Medusa;’ - Storyboard the main plot features in the text; - Engage deeply with the text by inferring the thoughts and feelings of the main character; - Peer assess each other’s learning attempts. This lower KS2 (year 3-4) pack provides comprehensive and varied tasks for approaching spelling rules, such as: - The prefixes un-, mis- and dis-; - The prefixes in-, im-, il- and ir-; - The suffixes -ion and -ian; - The suffix -ssion; - The /eɪ/ sound spelt ey, ei, or eigh; - Spellings of 'borrowed' words such as ch making a /k/ sound (from Greek) and -que and -gue endings (from French); - Common homophones; - Common suffix rules; - Apostrophes for possession - both singular and plural; - The year 3/4 appendix words.
