The National Literacy Strategy - Dissertation

(0)
My university dissertation. Topic: The National Literacy Strategy. A Literacy Task Force in January 1997 (chaired by Michael Barber and set up by the Labour Party shadow education minister David Blunkett) published its interim report - A reading revolution: How we can teach every child to read well. In the report, one of the recommendations was that the National Literacy Project (NLP) should be evaluated. The conservative government had previously established the NLP as a pilot scheme in thirteen Local Education Authorities. The aim of the evaluation was to determine whether the NLP should form the basis for a wider national literacy programme for all schools should Labour win the election. The major features of the NLP were: the introduction of a carefully structured literacy hour; a three strand programme of work at text, sentence and word level; a framework of teaching objectives indicating what should be taught during each term. Grade awarded: 82% - 1st Degree. 9 pages. 3707 words. Fully editable.
