Nerve Impulses Summary Worksheets A-level Biology
Nerve Impulses (AQA Section 6) summary worksheets for A-level Biology.
3 worksheets:
The action potential
Refractory period + propagation of a nerve impulse along a non-myelinated neurone.
Factors which affect speed of conduction (temperature, axon diameter, myelination).
Since introducing these visual summary worksheets, I have seen improvements across all abilities.
Download includes differentiated versions for the second two worksheets (one scaffolded ‘fill in the blank’ style worksheet, and one with blank answer spaces).
Full answer sheets are included, which could also be used as a handout.
The action potential worksheet is available as a fully completed version, to be used as a revision sheet or a version with the just the diagram and graph, for students to add their own text to. This leaves teachers free to explain each section of the graph as they prefer (i.e. some teachers prefer to include the term ‘voltage-gated’ ion channels, some don’t).
Encourage students to add colour to the worksheets to aid formation of visual memories.

AQA A-level Biology Required Practical Revision Sheets and Scientific Methodology Flashcards
AQA Required practical revision notes/sheets covering the 12 A-level required practicals (redox indicator & respirometer included for required practical 9)
Despite being worth 15% of the marks, so many students don’t allocate specific revision time to the required practicals. I designed these sheets for my own students to encourage specific revision of the practicals and have seen a great improvement in practical knowledge and the ability to answer practical-based questions.
Each sheet includes key information, an example method (where relevant) and most importantly, exam-style questions and model answers.
The model answers for the exam-style questions have been written based on previous mark schemes, but I cannot guarantee that future mark schemes will be exactly the same. The model answers are for guidance only. Students should be encouraged to use these sheets as a starting point and update/annotate with any further information as needed.

GCSE Separate Science Past Paper Tracker Spreadsheet
I’ve been using the ‘past paper’ method for years with my students.
Students complete a past paper, mark and analyse their results using MARCKS and then write SMART targets to plan targeted revision sessions. If they don’t comfortably acheive their target grade in the first attempt, they are encouraged to repeat the past paper 2-3 days later (after having completed targeted revision).
I’ve found that giving students access to this editable spreadsheet has massively increased motivation to actually use the method properly and stick with it.
Students can select from drop down boxes to input their current grade for Biology, Chemistry & Physics. Then they input their target grade. Everytime they complete a past paper, they can input their mark, percentage & grade. The spreadsheet has space for 3 attempts at each paper. Finally at the end of each row, students can select whether they have achieved their target grade for that past paper or not.
This is designed for students studying separate sciences, a spreadsheet for trilogy students will be made available ASAP.
If you need to clear the text from a cell with a drop down box - DO NOT DELETE IT as this will delete the formatting for the cell. Just select ‘none’ from the drop down box.

This spreadsheet does NOT seem to work on iPads I’m afraid, but I have tested it on an iMac, macbook & a laptop running excel and the formatting appears to work properly.
Revision Timetable Printable PDF
Printable revision timetables ideal for GCSE and A-level students.
Download contains 4 different colour options, plus one black and white version.
For each different colour, there is an option with time slots already completed & a blank version for students to choose their own timings for each session.
The two hour slots at the beginning & end of each day are for completing past papers - for any other revision, make sure you have a break after 1 hour of revising. I personally don’t suggest students timetable revision for early in the morning and late in the evening on the same day - choosing one or the other is usually best, depending on when students work best.
