I am a primary school teacher with a knack for teaching to the multiple intelligences, particularly the visual learner. My resources are inspired by my experience of teaching different students with unique ways of learning. I love the magic of helping them to make connections in learning. The grades 3-5 are mostly what I cater to, however, I also have some great resources for grades 1 and 2.

Writing Process Lesson Plans

These are five lesson plans for the writing process using descriptive writing. This engaging unit takes students through the stages of writing from start to finish, by developing and refining their own ideas into a well published final product. Descriptive Writing is a means of expressing one's environment through the perceptions of his senses. Sight, smell, touch, sound and taste, are used to vividly describe the environment so that the author can transport the reader into his environment. It is compulsory that a child is taught the necessary skills to develop a good descriptive story structure, which will improve their writing skills across the curriculum as well as develop their self-esteem and promote literacy. Fulfils requirements for: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.4 With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.5 With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, and editing. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.4.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

The size of these cards may be right for you but if you would prefer to have them smaller, you can always set them to print on a smaller scale such as 4 pages per printing page. As long as you print the files from your already saved files, these instructions would work because if you print straight from the downloaded page on the web, the printing settings of the web page would be limited. In Adobe Reader, go to print, under page sizing and handling, select ‘multiple', then under ‘Pages per Sheet' select 4. It will also give you the option of choosing landscape or portrait orientation. You can play with these to see which layout optimizes the space on the paper the best. TeacherNyla Nyla's Crafty Teaching

This is a set of 25 Idiom Posters which display common idioms, their definitions (both literal and figuratively), with pictures and examples with the idioms being used in a sentence related to the picture shown. Your students will have a lot of fun learning about idioms! This file is a wonderful tool for teaching idioms because it has idioms that are current and presented in an attractive format. It incorporates simple definitions and examples of common idioms. Idioms are very difficult for English Language Learners but the illustrations are a huge help for preventing students from taking the literal meaning of each idiom. You can also use it to make a bulletin board of idioms. You can also print them out on a smaller scale so that they can be used as revision flash cards. I included as many pictures (clip art) as I could because I like to have students make connections between the new vocabulary and the everyday situations that they are already familiar with. Fulfills: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.5.A Distinguish the literal and nonliteral meanings of words and phrases in context. Fulfills as it related to idioms CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.4.5.B and CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.5.5.B Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms...
