Welcome, I have been teaching maths since 2010. I enjoy producing engaging activities to use in the classroom. I don't make anything I wouldn't use myself!

Revision Checklist - GCSE Maths Higher

This is a detailed checklist that I am giving to my year 10 & 11’s to help them engage in and structure their independent revision. It shows in detail the areas they need to cover for maths GCSE with tickboxes to record their progress. To make it easy for them to engage with each part there are links to the relevant videos from Mathswatch and Corbett maths. I’m hopeful this will make it easier for them to get started with their maths revision by giving them a framework and an easy link to an activity to support each area of the maths curriculum.

Fractions - Multiplication & Division Maze Puzzle

(6)
Fractions Maze Two differentiated puzzles: the first is shorter with multiplication of proper fractions only. The second is longer, has multiplication and division and also includes mixed numbers. Good for when you want them to do more fractions but don’t want to use another worksheet or text book! Solutions are included. Leaving a rating is always appreciated - thanks.

SSDD Questions

These questions are inspired by Craig Barton’s SSDD questions who got the idea from an article on the benefits of interleaved mathematics by D. Rohrer et al. SSDD stands for ‘same surface different deep’ and the idea is that as teachers we become overconfident in students ability to use a technique to solve a problem as in most lessons students already know what technique to apply as they have already been told that’s what they will be doing in the lesson. Usually students apply one technique to solve a variety of problems in any one lesson. SSDD questions turn this on its head by having what looks like one problem but students are then asked questions that will require a variety of strategies to solve them. The aim is that students become more adept at identifying the strategy required to solve the problem without being told this first. The slides here can be used as they are but could also be adapted and extended for your own use. They are suitable as starters but a collection of questions could be used as the main part of a lesson.

A single sheet with the three trigonometric graphs drawn.

(1)
Sine, cosine and tangent graph drawn on one sheet. Helpful for students to understand the shape of trig graphs, their key intersections and turning points and by drawing horizontal lines to see why there can be multiple solutions to e.g sin x = 1/2.
