***THE SPOOKY, MYSTERIOUS SANTA CLAUSE*** I don't know about you, but I struggle to think of things to keep the children busy on the last week of term. So I can up with this this week to try and bring some interesting writing together. It's basically suspense and mystery planning based on creating a spooky Santa Clause. A 4 day series of lessons on suspense and mystery. These lessons allow children to write in a suspense style by using ellipses, short sentences and making the reader think that there is something hidden. These lessons involve video clips and setting a spooky scene my turning off the lights during the reading of these paragraphs. A powerpoint, plan and resources are included.

This lesson is very fun and interesting, while encouraging scientific enquiry and language throughout the whole lesson. This resource comes with a detailed, differentiated plan, activity resources and a step-by-step support notebook. Children will be investigating foams and deciding which foam is the best insulator to keep ice-cream from melting. A messy lesson, but one to remember. It contains enough material for a one hour lesson. 10 higher level thinking questions for deepening understanding and developing mathematical language Having studied in a course based on AFL strategies, I have a new found love (so to speak) for asking higher level questions during lessons to evoke discussion between students. The more they discuss concepts, the deeper their understanding will grow. With this in mind, I created these colourful cards to be cut, laminated and given to my year 4 class once a week to create ‘colourful’, intentional discussion. As we are all aware, there are many different types of learners, and children remember 90% of the information that teach someone else. Therefore, by engaging in critical thinking in maths, they will essentially be “teaching” their partner why their reasoning is correct through having to “prove” it to them. My class adored this and the intentional discussion kept them engaged in the task for much longer as they had to get their personal opinions across. 13 pages of multiplication resources Mastering multiplication facts is such an important component to math fluency. This packet is hands-on, FUN, engaging and provides students with a meaningful way to help master basic multiplication facts from 2-12 while having FUN! Tic-Tac-Toe/X’s and O’s Multiplication is a fun way for students to practice basic multiplication facts. This game is played just like the traditional game of tic-tac-toe but with multiplication facts. *Each player uses a different colored game piece to mark their choice. Students must solve the problems correctly to place an X or an O on the board. Three is a row wins the game! *Each game board focuses on a specific multiplication table or there’s an option for mixed multiplication tables. In addition, each game board allows students to work/see multiplication problems two different ways.

Multiplication: Timed Tests Multiplication Tests are a great way for students to show progress with math fact fluency. Each multiplication test will focus on a specific number or a review of a set of numbers. *There are 24 problems on each page. The goal is to improve speed and accuracy. Each page has a place to record the time and score for the test. There is a test for: x2 x3 x4 x5 x6 x7 x8 x9 x10 x11 x12 Mixed I have also included a challenge section at the bottom to extend their learning even further.

Graded: Outstanding This is a lesson that I did for an observation today with the English coordinator. It's a lesson on Tanka poetry. Children learned what a Tanka was the day before, but today they needed to create a bank of similes, metaphors and adjectives to enhance their descriptions that they will use in their poem later in the week. I have differentiated this activity, by providing scaffolding support for the SEN/EAL children in my class. The lesson, as a whole, was intended to be a mixed ability lesson. However, as it was an observation, I needed to include some form of extra support/ scaffolding for some children. This lesson is linked to the Vikings and children need to describe what it would be like to leave their lovely homeland with the beautiful scenery. The resource includes: *a clear, detailed lesson plan, *picture to annotate *powerpoint to explain the meaning of a Tanka (if needed prior to the lesson) *basic flipchart for referall as a class *simile and metaphor sort *simile and metaphor sort (EAL/SEN).

**OBSERVATION LESSON** A co-worker of mine asked would I plan a lesson observation with them on angles. A few years ago, I taught a similar lesson for an observation. Basically, this resource contains: A clear, detailed and differentiated lesson plan A simple but colourful powerpoint to use as a guideline 3 activities differentiated into high, middle and low Angle creators with arrows (just print, laminate and secure with a split pin). This lesson aims to engage a variety of learners. By using the angle creator, visual and kinesthetic learners can practically make the different types of angles that are being taught in this lesson. (Acute, obtuse, reflex, right angle, straight line angle) HA are extended by asking children to label the angles found in 2D shapes and how to measure them by using a protractor. The plenary asks children to spot angles in the clock face. A really enjoyable lesson. Please review.

Enjoy some end of term activities by engaging the children with the World Cup 2022. The country of Qatar is getting ready for 2022, so why shouldn’t we? A mathematical activity to engage children with converting units of measure (World Cup Theme). Lesson Plan included. Familiarise the children with the layout of the stadiums. Children must measure the distance between a letter and a stadium. Then because 1cm=35 minutes, they must then calculate how long it would take to get to said stadium. For example: How long will it take A to get to Lusail stadium? Using your ruler, measure the distance from A to Lusail stadium. If it’s 7.6 cm- round to the nearest whole number which is 8cm. 1cm = 35 minutes so 35 x 8 = 280 minutes =4 hours 40 minutes Children must then fill in a table with their findings. Shared/Guided Reading lesson based on the story ‘Journey to Jo’Burg’. This was used to inspire these kids and completely engage them with the story. My idea is for the starter, display three questions (see planning) and get them to write their answers in groups on post-it notes. Then stick them up on the IWB on a picture of South Africa (also in resources). This will engage them straight away with the text and what’ll happen. Then you’ll move on to explaining that the idea is to focus on what a dilemma is and what it is in this chapter. (The chapter is linked on the planning and you can download it as a pdf). The children should have a hard copy in front of them and together you will make a success criteria of what a good, interesting reader sounds like. Get them to critique you reading in a boring way. Children to sort pre-made laminated statements into positives and negatives about going to Jo’Berg. In groups children will then engage in a conscience alley (role-play) to thrash out both sides of a dilemma. You can do it as a whole class or small groups either. Children really get into the story this way and feel they’re helping Naledi choose her dilemma. Great, engaging lesson. Really enjoyed it!

Traditional Tales and Myths- Understanding the features Children cannot and should not be writing their own myth without first of all familiarising themselves with the text type. Having completed that step, they can then begin to think about planning their very own myth. The idea behind it is fun filled, active and different so my children and I absolutely love it! Included: *4 day, detailed lesson plan. *Power Point of the story. *‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ text resource (color coded). *‘Box-it up’ planning frame. *Hot Seating Questions which allow the children to get into the mind of the Minotaur. 4 games and activities to brighten up learning how to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice-versa.

My class assembly that I did today as we have been studying fairy tales for the last 2 weeks. Cinderella can seem a bit babyish for Year 4 students, however we made it a funny version and the audience were in tears laughing. This script is funny, modern and is easily adaptable. I made one of the stepsisters a boy (wears the wig etc) and the audience loved it. My prince was also a girl and she as fantastic, put on the deep voice and all. Included is: The script (which is easy to follow and has stage directions included) The layout in which I sat the children The downloads of the music I used An invitation to give to the parents. Both the children and the parents adored the assembly. A personal highlight of mine is that the children sing working 9-5 by Dolly Parton- amazing.
