Persuasive Writing Year 4

(1)
A wonderful week of Literacy lessons planned and resourced here for Year 4 Persuasive Writing. This is week 1 of persuasive writing unit which I did last year and have made some improvements. It immerses children in persuasive language and techniques to persuade their reader. These lessons are based around 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and by the end of the week, children will create their own advertisement for a new chocolate product. Children are taught to use: *exaggeration *word-play *snappy slogans *tempting benefits *eye-catching illustrations and writing This resource package comes with a wealth of resources to ensure that all children understand and utilize the persuasive techniques needed to sell a product. (On the plus side, it's about a chocolate product, which keeps it interesting for them). Prepositions are taught as a starter also to incorporate SPAG into the week of Literacy. This package included: -a clear, detailed lesson plan -3 different powepoints -printable advertisements to annotate -illustrations for children's products -success criteria -planning grid Please leave a review and let me know what you found useful or not and I'll be happy to update the resource.

A weekly plan on non-chronological reports for year 1. This plan is detailed and differentiated. Children are encouraged to use a signpost sentence to inform the reader what they will read. They will make notes by using a mind map and create an interesting, factual report. It's a follow on from another non-chronological plan I have in my shop: see the link below: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/non-chronological-reports-year-1-11510333

Bonfire Night: Powerpoint and Activity

Bonfire Night explained through a colourful, visual powerpoint. I have used a wide range of pictures to teach children about Bonfire Night. As I have a huge portion of EAL learners in my class, I have included simple, clear pictures that make the content easy to understand. The story is told in an interesting way, through use of speech bubbles and cartoon pictures. Easily adaptable for a younger class also. As an activity, I asked children to create a comic strip based on what they learned about Bonfire Night. For EAL or low ability learners, I have included differentiated resources and images to assist them. This resource includes: *A colourful, interactive powerpoint. *Differentiated acitivities Please leave a review on your thoughts. Thanks

Dissolving: 3 experiments

(1)
This lesson involves an exciting experiment to understand the terms: *dissolve *solute *solution *solvent *soluble Children will work in mixed ability groups and conduct 3 different experiments to see which factors have an influence on dissolving. It worked fantastically in the use and understanding of the scientific terms listed above. Children will then feedback to the class about what they discovered from their investigation and as a class we will conclude as to which factors effect dissolving most. This lesson comes well resourced with: *a step-by-step guide, for each group, in how to conduct their experiment along with the equipment needed. *Key Vocabulary for reference or display purposes. *Flash cards explaining the terms for low ability or visual learners. *A detailed lesson plan *An interactive notebook file *Post/prior assessment tool Overall, a very enjoyable lesson which allows the children to learn and understand the scientific terms in a practical way. Please leave a review and let me know how you and your class liked this resource.
Pronouns

Pronouns

(0)
This resource is made with a Harry Potter theme. Children are introduced to the term pronouns through a short Harry Potter clip where they can hear how badly pronouns are needed in spoken language as well as written. I have made differentiated work resources for the children to use for low ability, middle ability and high abililty- all still based on the Harry Potter Theme. Children are encouraged to work in groups throughout this lesson to try and practice using pronouns on whiteboards, before their activity. Using a Harry Potter theme worked well in my class as it fun, colourful and different from their normal SPAG lessons, which can sometimes be boring. I have included a powerpoint, worsheets and a detailed plan with this package.

Class Assembly: Myths and Legends

I used this as a class assembly this week and have made the necessary changes to the script that I made throughout rehearsals. This script shows what we learned as a class through story-telling and acting out the myth of Icarus and Daedalus and the legend of the Loch Ness monster. (Scottish Accents included). It is done in the form of Myths and Legends X Factor with judges and a presenter. Both parents and children adored it.

Children are encouraged to make up their own scientific question, which promotes a scientific enquiry, heightening the engagement during this experiment. A week's planning based on building children up to adding using the formal method. The week begins by discussing ways to partition and add three digit numbers mentally. This embeds the idea that will be used for the week. From there, interactive activities are used to engage children with column addition and to understand that place value and aligning the digits is extremely important when using this method. This package includes a detailed, differentiated plan as well as a resource of number cards to use.

Comic Strip Art

This is a very fun lesson in which I spent half a day creating with my class. It involves learning about the artist Roy Lichenstein while creating a fun comic strip like creation. This is a perfect 'end of term' activity and children genuinely had a great day engaging with this type of art. The resource includes a colourful, detailed notebook, which contains lots of links to video clips and details on how to make this creation (step-by-step). It also includes a lesson plan. Timestables Chart

Timestables Chart

(0)
A colourful, creative way to keep track of children's knowledge of the timestables. I printed this chart on A3, filled in the children's names and ticked off the timestables as they knew them. We found it was a nice visual way to keep a note of who knew which timestables and it also became a little competitive in who knew the most.
