I use this to do 'walk-throughs' with classes, especially GCSE. Show them the first section to translate, discuss and then show them how you translated it. Feedback from my classes has been great for this. They have found it very useful. It's almost like doing 'workings out' in maths.

Type in a word/phrase it the TL on one line and then the equivalent in English opposite it (as in the example). Do this within each inner section and then cut it up into cards. Pupils must then form a triangle with the cards by matching the TL to the English. Instructions are in the notes section of the PPT. It's worth Googling 'Tarsia puzzles'!

Good for revision for speaking exams. Pupils can do this in pairs. In advance, choose the topics or sub-topics. Their partner decides if their answer is good enough. If so, they colour in the segment in the relevant colour. If not, they discuss why and may try again. This is just one of many possible activities.

Groups of 3 or 4. Choose a pupil at random to choose a number. Click on the number (on your computer) to reveal a word. All pupils have 30 seconds to write a sentence using that word. The most impressive (and correct) sentence wins a point for their team.

Students choose a number and have to make a sentence with the word shown. Depending upon ability, they could make new sentences with the following words chosen, or they could try to make a story with the following words.

You must buy sentences at every shop. Each sentence costs 1€. Each sentence is worth a different amount of winnings. Draw your Euros into your winning column. If you run out of Euros in your bank, you can use your winnings to buy sentences. The winners have the most Euros. Full instructions in the notes section of the PPT.

Pupils roll the dice and then: ask a question, give a statement, say something positive, say something negative, say something in the future, say something in the past about a given topic.

Make these into cards. Then pupils have to pick one at random and say something: a question, a statement, a positive thing, a negative thing, something in the future or something in the past (each represented by a symbol).

Use this as a random picture selector: Press F5 and then ‘s’ randomly. Whatever the picture is and the symbol at the bottom of the slide, pupils must take it in turns to say something – a question about the picture, an exclamation, a positive, a negative, something in the future and something in the past.

One of my personal favourites! Have a reading text in the box. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text. 3 slides with different scores.

Great for revision of vocab. A pre-coloured wordlist for words the pupils don't know (red), words they're not sure of (yellow/amber) and words they definitely know (green).

Template for the popular 'Quiz-Quiz-Trade' activity. Students each have a small piece of paper/card with a phrase in TL and its translation underneath. Students mill around the room, when they ‘bump’ into someone student A will say their phrase in TL and student B has to translate (quiz). The same happens with student B’s card (quiz). If both students translate each other’s card correctly they trade, hence the quiz-quiz-trade. To add an element of competition, ask the students to count the amount of times they exchanged and give a prize / raffle ticket / house point to the winner.

Give the students a gap-fill text with 10 gaps in it (A to I). Of course, this can be more or fewer gaps – just remember to adjust the A to I in the table. In each gap in the text, write a letter (A to I). Along the corresponding row in the table, give 6 alternatives to go in that gap. Pupils then choose one by rolling a dice. When the student reaches the gap, they roll a dice and say/write the corresponding word.

Click where it says “Insert words here” to add your clue. If Team O get one right, click on the ‘O’ underneath the picture or clue. It will change to ‘O’. Likewise with Team X.

The traditional Os & Xs game for pairwork. You could either fill in the squares for the pupils, or they could do it themselves. Phrases in French to use when playing are at the bottom of the sheet, along with the instructions.

As in Mock the Week, pupils guess the question from the answer. When you click on the answer box, the question appears. Great idea as a starter.

Use this to practise asking questions. In presentation mode, your answers will show in each square. Challenge pupils to work out what the question could be. I award one point for any relevant question they come up with and 2 points if they correctly guess the question I came up with. Simply clicking on the square with your answer reveals your question.

For pairwork activities. Full instructions are on the document, but the basic idea is that pupils try to guess each element of a phrase or short paragraph in a limited amount of attempts.

Use this grid for listening work, reading work or anything you can think of. The idea is that pupils, for example, listen once to a text and fill in the words they know in the middle section. They then pass it to their partner who fills in any extra words that are not in the middle section after the second time of listening. They then pass it on to someone else in the class who then fills in the darkest section on the outside of the grid with any extra words not filled in after the third time of listening. Best to use this with a challenging listening/reading.

Pupils work in teams. One person from Team A chooses a topic and a value. Click on the corresponding shape and this reveals a clue to the word or phrase that is the answer. If they get it correct, they get those points. If they get it wrong, it passes to the opposite team. Give them a time limit in which to answer. Clues could be, “this noun is masculine”, “this phrase is in the perfect tense”, etc.
