Pupils work in pairs to get 4 in a row by giving one aspect from the y axis and one from the x axis. They must also try to block the other pupil. For example, if you’ve used personal pronouns and infinitives, they have to give ‘je regarde’ to get the corresponding square. Class version also available.

French - Reading Challenge - Where I used to live

The text is using the imperfect tense to talk about where you used to live. Read the text to the class (or get them to read it). In 2 teams, they then choose one of the English words/phrases at the bottom and find the correct French equivalent in the text. If they are right, click on the English to reveal a random score for their team. A good way to make reading a bit more interesting and fun.

Ideal cover lesson. Pupils fill in the timetable in German to begin with. They then draw and label their school uniform in German, using the vocab list to help. They write some opinion words underneath their drawing. To finish, they must write a sentence or two about subjects and their uniform. For example, “Ich finde Deutsch toll und ich finde Mathe langweilig. Ich finde meine Schuluniform cool und schick.”

Use the PPT to introduce family members in French. The sheet is a copy of the family tree in the presentation, so pupils can follow and make notes. Pupils then use the clues (e.g. my dad’s brother) to identify the family member.

Use this PPT to teach pupils how to order an ice cream in French. To begin with, pupils must try to work out the order of the conversation. Then, introduce the vocab, using visual clues. Finally, play noughts and crosses, using the initials of the new phrases.

The text is on the topic of sports and is aimed more at KS3. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text.

French - Leisure writing wheel

The writing wheel is designed as a support for pupils' writing, especially in a foreign language, which is one of the most difficult skills. In this case, the topic is leisure. Starting from the centre, pupils write something from each circle and work their way out. Then print out one or both slides (depending on how much you want pupils to write) as support for pupils’ writing.
