Insert random words, or words from the current topic into each slide. Then, press F5 to start the presentation loop. Press ‘S’ to stop and start the loop again. For each random word it lands on, students have to include it in a paragraph or a 1-minute talk, for example.

Copy pictures or type words into each of the blue boxes. Pupils choose a box by saying the word or phrase (or a sentence) represented by the picture/word. Click on that picture/word if they get it right and reveal the random points they get for their team. A lot of luck involved here!

There is an example included in this template. Pupils must name a word in French associated with the topic of, for example, physical appearance. If they mention any of the words you came up with as teacher, they are awarded the points you allocated to that word.

Pupils work in pairs. They take it in turns to roll the dice and say in French the corresponding phrase. For example, “Je porte des chaussures et un pull”.

This PPT is on the topic of tenses, in particular the simple future. It starts with a translation challenges and then is followed by a sentence auction (instructions below). You must buy sentences at every shop. Each sentence costs 1€. Each sentence is worth a different amount of winnings. Draw your Euros into your winning column. If you run out of Euros in your bank, you can use your winnings to buy sentences. The winners have the most Euros. Full instructions in the notes section of the PPT. Students then use mini boards to translate the simple future phrases.

In teams, pupils choose a number. Click on the number and reveal a phrase to translate. Whether they are right or not, click on the translation to reveal a score. If their translation was correct, they get the revealed score (good or bad!). If their translation was incorrect, the other team get that score. There are 3 wipeouts (clears their score – positive or negative) and a ‘swap score’. Use this grid for listening work, reading work or anything you can think of. The idea is that pupils, for example, listen once to a text and fill in the words they know in the middle section. They then pass it to their partner who fills in any extra words that are not in the middle section after the second time of listening. They then pass it on to someone else in the class who then fills in the darkest section on the outside of the grid with any extra words not filled in after the third time of listening. Best to use this with a challenging listening/reading.

Give pupils a bronze, silver or gold phrase to translate. They write their translation on a sticky note and then stick it on the back of the relevant card. When everyone has done this, put the class into 3 groups and give each group one of the cards with the sticky notes on the back. They must then check the translations and feed back to the rest of the group.
