I have a copy of this on my classroom wall and a set of cards for pupils when they are doing transcription pairwork. It's a list of punctuation phrases in German and English.

Use this template to practise transcription work in pairs. There is a sheet for person A and one for person B. Type the 2 different texts into the relevant boxes (they must be 2 different texts). Pupils then take it in turns to read their text to their partner, who must then write what they hear in the empty box. After they have both finished, they then compare their written text to the original on their partner's sheet and tally any errors made.

This is a single page copy of some of the slides on the spontaneous speaking PPT. It’s designed to be stuck in pupils’ books for reference, so they can use the phrases in lessons (e.g. agreeing, justifying your opinion, etc.)

Pupils work in pairs to produce a paragraph on any given topic. They take it in turns to roll the dice. The phrase corresponding to their number is the one they have to use. When they’ve completed it, they then learn it. Good practice for learning to learn! They must also check that the phrase makes sense. If it doesn’t (incorrect tense, etc.), they must roll again. It’s a good idea to print this off as well.

Use the space on each slide to enter the words/phrases you want pupils to memorise whilst they’re fading automatically. They could then either write them out or translate them either during the fade or after. Each slide takes 10, 20 and 30 seconds to fade out.

Pupils work in pairs to read the paragraph about rooms in the house. Each pupil has the same paragraph, but with gaps in different places. By reading to each other, they fill in the gaps in their own paragraph, promoting speaking, listening and transcription skills.

Press F5 and the PPT will flick through the flags very quickly. To make it stop/start, simply press ‘S’. A greater starter activity, following teaching pupils how to say where they live (countries).

The topic here is 'Where I live' (e.g. in the countryside, etc.) When they see the vocab, pupils put thumbs up or down, depending on whether they agree that the vocab matches the picture. If it does match, the thumbs up image shakes. If it doesn’t match, the thumbs down image shakes and the correct picture appears.

This PPT introduces various quantities to use with food & drink in French. It starts with an example conversation, buying food & drink and pupils must first identify the quantities. Then, the quantity phrases are formally introduced. Finally, pupils play noughts and crosses with the new vocab.

Give the students the gap-fill text about food & drink with 10 gaps in it (A to I). Of course, this can be more or fewer gaps – just remember to adjust the A to I in the table. In each gap in the text, write a letter (A to I). Along the corresponding row in the table, give 6 alternatives to go in that gap. Pupils then choose one by rolling a dice. When the student reaches the gap, they roll a dice and say/write the corresponding word.

This PPT introduces pupils to vocab about changing the planet (e.g. ‘I’m going to do charity work’). To start with, pupils identify what 3 texts are about using clues. Then, introduce the new vocab to pupils and then they fill in the gaps in the sentences and then match them to the English.

Teach pupils prepositions in German using this PPT. Each word has a simple visual clue to help pupils remember it.

In this PPT, show pupils a word or phrase associated with a particular tense and they identify which tense. Look at the clues as well. At the end of the PPT, show sections of a paragraph and pupils must identify the clues and tenses in each section.

Add your own verb and its paradigm to this slide, allowing pupils to practise conjugating the given verb in pairs, using a dice.

Give each pupil a handout of these slides, as well as going through how it works. Working from the centre circle, pupils choose options and add extra detail to produce a paragraph in the perfect tense.

Pupils roll a dice and then conjugate the given -er verb. Answers can be revealed at the end.

Teach pupils how to say 'of it' and 'of them' using 'en', using this presentation.

When teaching a lesson about using different tenses, show this on the board as pupils enter the room, giving them something to think about and get them ready for French! Each slide is timed and so can be played on its own. On each slide are words, such as 'hier', 'demain', etc.

Pupils roll the dice and then: ask a question, give a statement, say something positive, say something negative, say something in the future, say something in the past about a given topic.
