Sample Space Probability
This is a lesson I made on sample spaces. It is quite class specific so you may need to do a lot of adapting to the middle section to make it fit to your class. Nice question at the end though where I got pupils to work in pairs to justify their answers.
Nets and Properties of 3D shapes
A full lesson looking at some key properties and vocabulary of 3 shapes.
It contains a link to a geogebra file.
Money and Bank Balance Game
This is a short game I made for pupils to look at which looks at the very basics of bank balance.
Pupils move there way around the board either collecting money or spending it and have to update their balance sheet to match it.
Also a nice way to introduce the concept of debt and negative numbers.
Mean from a table
Here is a basic lesson on calculating means from a table. It starts by recapping averages then moves on to mean from a table.
I have done it the opposite way round to usual looking at estimated means first then finishing by asking them to look at a mean from a frequency table.
Fraction to Percentage Beer Pong (without beer)
Here is a full lesson on converting fractions to percentages.
However the task at the end is the interesting bit! Pupils need to bounce a ping pong ball into a cup, you give pupil a card telling them how many times to repeat the experiment (10, 20 or 25 times). We then compare the results to see who is the best hopefully they will realise its hard to compare results when we've done different numbers of time. So they will need to convert their answers to percentages!
Estimating Lengths
An interesting lesson based around pupils trying to estimate lengths. Nice starter based on estimating some strange lengths with multiple choice answers.
At the end there is a task where pupils have to work in small groups to create strips of certain lengths.
Plotting Co-ordinates
Nice lesson on plotting co-ordinates takes pupils through from the basics. It includes 1 quadrant and all 4 quadrants.
There are a couple of really nice activities such as the one where you hide co-ordinates around the room and pupils have to find them to crack the code. Also, there is a bingo towards the end based on Christmas presents and co-ordinates.
Converting Metric Units
Here is a lesson on converting between different metric units. It has a variety of different activities for practicing similar skills including differentiated questions.
Feel fee to use all of its or pick individual slides to use :-)
Patterns and Sequences
A full lesson on sequences and patterns.
It start by looking at finding missing terms, moves on to the nth term of a sequence before moving on to applying nth term algebra to problems involving pictures.
Constructing Triangles with a Protractor
Here is a lesson I designed on constructing triangles using a protractor.
It includes all the basics with some simple questions to do. There is a really nice slide towards the end where pupils have to construct a picture of a boat!
How Many Meatballs!
Here is a problem solving lesson all about the volume of spheres and cylinders!
You will need a pack of meatballs a jar of pasta sauce and a pan for the pupils to use and measure.
I have included teacher hints on the slides which will need deleting out before you can use it.
I wish I could claim it was all my idea but I stumbled across it on Dan Meyer's blog and developed the idea into something that I could use in my classroom.
Division Battleships
Split the class in half the teams take it in turns answering questions from their side of the board. The first team to find the 5 ships hidden under their squares wins.
This one is basic mental division facts ideal for KS2 and low attaining KS3 class, mainly single digit divisions.
Proportion Team Quiz
Break the class in half and each team take it in term to answer questions and gather points by answering a question square then clicking on it.
Covers proportion including the unitary method.
Pythagoras' Theorem Lesson
Here is a complete lesson on Pythagoras' theorem with included assessment opportunities and printable differentiated worksheets on the IWB. Extension tasks using Pythagoras to find perimeters and areas of shapes too.
There is a quality activity which I printed out where pupils have to role 2 dice to select the base and height of a right angled triangle then use the information to calculate the hypotenuse.
I have included teacher hints on the slides which need deleting out because there are a lot of things that need clicking or pulling out. Enjoy!
Which Santa? Cumulative Frequency and Box Plots
Here is a task I made for my class studying GCSE statistics group but also used with my higher group.
Pupils are required to complete a number of tasks to decide who should replace santa; buddy the elf or Fred Claus.
Requires pupils to construct a table of data, cumulative frequency diagram, read information from it, then construct a box blot (box and whisker) and interpret the results.
I prints the pages from the IWB and used them as worksheets!
Enjoy Christmas Maths!
3D Shape Quiz
This quiz covers a few key bits of 3D shapes including nets, volumes, naming 3D shapes and cuboids, I also chucked in a random area of triangle questions as well.
As pupils give correct answers click the square to remove it as they move down the tack.
Areas of Circles Team Activity
Here is an activity I used to consolidate finding areas of circles 'Usain's Insane Circle Race'. Pupils answer questions to move their runner down the track.
My pupils loved it! Feel free to switch the picture of me.
Mean, Median and Mode Class Quiz
Here is a catchphrase type activity on averages (mean, median and mode).
When pupils answer questions click the square to remove it. Pupils get points for every star they find under the tile.
Properties of 3D shapes Catchphrase
Here is a catchphrase covering so key elements of the 3D shape topics including naming 3D shapes, vertices, edges and faces.
A nice way to consolidate the topic.
Click the squares to reveal the catchphrase.
Finding Percentages of Amounts
Here is a lesson I delivered as a reintroduction to percentages of amounts to a group of foundation students.
Contains Lesson plan, Loop Cards and the Smart notebook. I have included teacher hints to help people find things on the slides but please delete these out.
Includes an extension on percentage increase and decrease.
Enjoy! Feedback and improvements welcome!
