This is a complete scheme of work including a range of engaging tasks to captivate a KS3 group or lower ability KS4 group on Shakespeare’s less frequently taught Much Ado About Nothing.

If you only buy one lesson in this series, this would be a useful one to begin to tie together the use of structure, narrative, themes and characters. This lesson is differentiated (Group 3 is definitely harder than any of the other group tasks) and facilitates students' engagement with the real purpose of this chapter through paired and group question led activities.

This resource includes fully differentiated activities to support close textual analysis of an extract, an engaging Newspaper Report activity and links between this and previous chapters alongside a close focus on the use of pathetic fallacy. Language, structure and motifs are considered at different points in this lesson. Group work is used. SMSC is evident. This is a well rounded lesson that will nurture a real love of English and this text. This lesson teaches students the STILT(s) acronym for poetry comparison, this could be used to teach comparison skills as well as teaching specific comparison points on these two poems from the Edexcel Relationship Collection. The lesson is challenging and aims to take students grades to the top levels. It includes engaging 'thunks', activities, guidance, exemplar paragraphs and guided questions and processes that could be applied to other pairs of poems. This assembly uses music, interesting facts about New Year, an inclusive ‘hands up’ activity and challenges students to adapt their approach to setting new year’s resolutions and instead aim to be more reflective and make changes all the time to ensure they achieve successes in their education, personal and emotional lives. This assembly draws on facts that traverse a range of cultures and is overtly linked to the SMSC agenda. This lesson introduces KS3 students to the conventions of the Detective Genre using short film clips and a fun game. This works really well as either the first lesson of a topic on this genre or as a transition day activity as the students will enjoy the lesson and be left feeling that studying English is not always reading and writing.

This assembly is ideal for use as a return to school assembly: it draws on the musings of Jay Shetty, an international speaker who is entirely relateable to young people today. This assembly motivates students to think about who they are and what they want to achieve and to understand that being different is fine, you take you own route through to success. My own students were transfixed by this assembly and then went on to refer back to it throughout the academic year, which is why I wanted to share it.
