This powerpoint is designed for use as a CPD presentation that explores a full range of methods for showing the use of differentiation in classrooms. This presentation is based on pedagogical thinking and uses time efficient but effective ways of varying teaching methods to support students and also make learning enjoyable and challenging.
This powerpoint includes detailed contextual information linked to the text. Close analysis of language, form and structure through both ‘given slides’ and task driven learning. This resource also includes a non fiction reading extract for additional background on the use of the word ‘Raven’ so comprises elements of the skills required in the English Language exam. This lesson would work well as an introduction to the poem and a revision lesson. Challenge tasks are threaded throughout. The lesson ends with a ‘comparison quiz’ and revision challenge task.
This new bundle/resource includes a range of current quizzes and a newly designed scorecard to enable this to be used over a number of sittings/half term and ensures a sense of competition between students is upheld.
This bundle includes two constructed papers for the 19th century fiction paper and one for the 20th and 21st century non fiction paper and includes a mark scheme and indicative content for all papers. Useful resources to use in these final weeks before the Language exams.
This lesson uses a paper thematically linked to 'Space' and takes students through a series of leading questions in order to help them break down the methods they can use to approach this final question on the Non Fiction paper. It also includes reference to PALS as a method of talking about authors ideas and perspectives. My year 11 group found this lesson enormously clarifying as a revision lesson.
These resources offer a number of inroads into the topic of Identities and The Media, it includes theoretical references and documents, nurtures independence and includes a complete overview of this topic that takes students through a step by step guide outlining how to approach this Case Study.
This resource examples how audiences assume a 'Collective Identity' through a range of images to prompt discussion before then exploring the Critical Debate 'Whatever I say I am' . The lesson concludes with an essay question, peer assessment and DIRT style homework task to build on learning and independent research for this Case Study. This is an excellent lesson for students who need that extra leg up on this more challenging Case Study.
This crib sheet is perfect for students who may not have done as much revision as they ought to have done, it gives them everything they need to know in one place and would work well for last minute revision sessions before the Transactional Writing Paper.
This lesson offers a route through this poem, exploring context, form, language and structure whilst also nurturing independence through guided activities.
This lesson is an excellent introduction the feminist background and theory, it uses an extract from Charlotte Gilman Perkins 'The Yellow Wallpaper' and leads students through a feminist reading of the text. This lesson includes references and explanations of 'Herstory' and 'L'ecriture Feminine' and proved highly progressive with my year 12 students.
This is so much more than a quiz, it asks questions but also answers them in detail, using PEE paragraphs, full explanations and text references. The questions include challenges relating to language, structure and context and conclude with a 'big question' before offering guidance on how to respond to the question (which links to some of the prior questions) and essentially a homework task.
This powerpoint is heavily differentiated using images and bonus questions to support and stretch.
If a student has not 'got' this text, this powerpoint should go a long way to filling gaps. If you find this useful please do leave a review.
If interested in a marking service for the resulting essays please contact me on Twitter @jomarsh1 as this is also available, subject to demand.

This powerpoint takes you through a step by step analysis of each stanza, the background to the title and a potential comparison with My Last Duchess through a wide range of oral, active, written and thought provoking ideas, questions and images. This is everything you would need to teach this poem. Other poems in this collection are also available in my TES shop as is a bundle including all poems in the collection at a discounted rate.
Is Curley's Wife really that bad? This lesson includes some outstanding resources that use differentiated questioning and focus to meet the needs of ALL learners. The activity worksheets are classified in target grades so that you can group students according to ability and includes a 'Magpie' activity for your very most able. This lesson draws on a range of pedagogical practices in order to achieve outstanding progress for ALL.

This powerpoint incorporates all the skills required by the new GCSE specifications and would be appropriate for teaching this text at both KS3 (top end) or KS4. The resource includes challenge tasks, language, form and structure analysis, dramatic tasks, recreations of scene, engaging use of ICT and nods to including Maths in the English curriculum. This is everything you need to teach this section of the play and would take between 7-9 hours to teach in its entirety.
This bundle includes a 19th century fiction paper and a 20th/21st century non fiction paper with mark schemes and indicative content, so useful for parents and teachers alike. I have also included a guide to answering the more challenging question 7 on Paper 2 here. This is heavily discounted to allow for anyone who has purchased one of these individually to still feel they are getting good value.
This resource is a domino game with the narrative devices introduced at KS5, this is an engaging yet challenging way of getting students to identify what they do/don't know. This can be run as either a whole class game or print a set for each student and race to first completed (the method I prefer!).
This lesson offers KS5 students a step by step guide to how to approach an essay question and respond to it cogently and effectively ensuring their response is focused and supported. I created this lesson in response to students saying they knew their texts, but weren't sure how to construct them, their written style improved dramatically after delivering this lesson.
This lesson takes students through a range of questions and foci on Betjeman's poem. This lesson encourages students to refine independent enquiry skills and concludes with a paired and peer assessed essay task broken into segments for ease of access.
