This resource is designed to meet the standards of the new Higher RMPS exam (valid from August 2016) and to help pupils to explain what is worship and to analyse the importance of worship in the two main Buddhist traditions: Theravada and Mahayana. The lesson can be completed in 1-2 periods.
This resource contains a PowerPoint, a flip chart with activities for the pupils and the lesson plan. Activities include: a starter (Give me 3), ‘sequence it’, watching video-clips, a plenary etc. There are opportunities for individual and group work.
Regardless of their age, all students love a puzzle - learning and fun at the same time! Motivate and enthuse your students with these six differentiated jigsaw puzzles which have the advantage of combining learning about the parable of ‘The Lost Coin’ with the enjoyment of playing.
When and how to use this resource
The puzzles are suitable to be used as part of the lesson ‘The Lost Coin’ during class activities, for revision or as a stand-alone activity. Pupils can work on them individually, in pairs or in mixed-ability groups.
All you need to do is to print off the puzzle (as many copies as you need), laminate them for durability, cut them out carefully to ensure close matching and finally, put the pieces in envelopes. This fun activity pack consists of a set of four differentiated puzzles to use with your students when teaching about St. Columba. ‘St. Columba - Fun Activity Pack’ is designed not just for creating ‘busy-work’ for students, but for engaging students in the learning process while consolidating their learning about St. Columba. This resource provides you with another approach to a routine task and focuses on an approach called: 'Reading to Write’ which was developed in Australia. Using this strategy, the content of a topic is taught through the reading and writing rather than using the reading and writing after the teaching.

‘Hindu Festivals: Diwali’ is the third lesson of the unit ‘Exploring Hinduism’ (unit plan can be found here and the complete unit of study here) and it is designed to last 1-2 periods. ‘Hindu Festivals: Diwali’ complements ‘Diwali Fun Activity Pack’ and ‘Diwali Jigsaw Puzzles’.
The resource contains a PowerPoint to give structure to lessons, a flip chart with engaging activities for students and worksheets. The animation added to all slides helps teachers to pause whenever necessary to explain, expand or clarify any questions pupils may have. Should the teacher want to add other pieces of information which he/she thinks is relevant Diwali or to change the order of slides, the PowerPoint is fully editable to allow all of these.
There is a mixture of stimulating and attractive activities which ensure high-quality learning experiences for all students: give me 5; think pair share, missing words activity, class discussions, drawing Rangoli patterns etc. There are many opportunities for class discussions to encourage young people to present their own opinions and respect the views of others. ‘Exploring the Holocaust Project’ is an ideal activity to be used at the end of the unit 'Exploring the Holocaust’. It is designed to be used over a number of weeks and it is flexible in that you can choose how much time to spend on each section.
Aim of this research
Teaching Holocaust history demands a high level of sensitivity and awareness of the complexity of the subject matter. It is hoped that this research project will provide your students with a clearer understanding of the Holocaust as a story for all of humanity and will encourage them to think critically about important issues and values not only within the historical context of the Holocaust, but also in contemporary society.
‘Exploring the Holocaust Part 2- Investigating’ is the second in a series of resources which assists teachers and students to research various ways in which different people reacted to the Nazi regime and produce a report which fully investigates the chosen topic.
In Part 2, students choose one aspect of the Holocaust, research from a website and make notes about key points, write up their findings, and reflect on what they have read and written. Also, there is an option for students to present their projects.
