Cut and laminate the patterns in strips.
Provide plastic / real coins for children to make repeating patterns in the maths area.

More and Less - Reception - Early Years
Differentiated worksheets.
Worksheet 1
Roll the dice. Then count the dots on the dice. Draw the dots in the middle box. Draw 1 more in the right box. Draw 1 less in the left box. Or write the correct numbers.
To differentiate, children need to use 2 dice and add them together to find the total value. Then find 1 more and 1 less. Or use a foam dice and add your own numbers (e.g 2 -3 digit numbers).
Worksheet 2
Find 1 more and 1 less using a number line.
Fill in the missing numbers

Worksheet - count the pictures in the centre column, then add 1 more/take 1 away and record your answer. To differentiate for MAT children, can they write the number. To make it easier, children can record answers using drawings.
Worksheet - use the number line to record 1 more or 1 less than the number.
Worksheet - circle which picture has more/less
Editable Word document & PDF copy provided
Recognising capital letters - highlight the letters that they recognise. Easy indicator of what letters to work on.
Reading zero to twenty. Tick when children are able to read these key words.
I do these assessments at the end of each full term. I then make groups of children to focus on similar sounds/numbers.
There is also a differentiated follow up maths worksheet for children to practise reading the numbers zero to twenty.
Sorting 2 digit and 3 digit numbers to 50 and 100 - differentiated.
Split up teen numbers. Left as a template, as I wrote my own numbers to differentiate.
Addition and subtraction worksheet/challenge for maths area - independent task.
Differentiated addition and subtraction worded problems.
Money - make a spider diagram of all the ways you can make 15p and 50p. My year 1s used numicon shapes. MAT started using multiplication, such as 5 lots of 10p make 50p (5x10=50).
Actions and Instruments -
Children used the flash cards to make a pattern with actions. Children took turns making the pattern for the rest of the group to make. Use 2D shapes for children to follow a pattern also.
Repeating Pattern Snakes -
My children used their fingers to paint a pattern on the snakes. My top group were encouraged to make 3 changes.
Reception - Recognise Numbers to 10
Highlight/tick the number as you show your child flash cards.
Write/type your children’s names along the left side of the table.
I also use this to assess number formation. I make notes about reversing numbers or poor formation in the comments box.
Counting 1p and 2p Coins - Reception Numeracy
DIfferentiated worksheets x4
My Reception children counted the coins in the purses and put the answers in the price tag.
Children will need to listen to the instruction read out by the teacher.
This will help them to develop their understanding of ‘left’ and ‘right’.
Worksheet - I’ve attached both copies, a PDF & an editable Word document.
Direction cards - I’ve used these in the woodlands as part of an outdoor learning activity. Children take it in turns to choose 5 instructions. They put sequence them and then tell their partner how to get to a treasure box/x marks the spot.
Direction cards - I’ve used these for BlueBot/BeeBot activities. Children sequence direction cards and then give their friend instructions to move BlueBot.
Funky Fingers - Design Crowns
Early Years
Castles and Dragons
Prince and Princesses
Children use tweezers to move coloured stones onto the crowns to make a pattern.
