Here are 13 more Edexcel GCSE 9-1 extract-based exam questions, firmly based on the sample and 2017 materials to provide effective revision and exam practice of ‘Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’. These are different from my previous resource, using less well-known extracts to provide students with a little more challenge.
These 12 extracts have questions similar in style and format to the sample assessment materials and past papers, to provide students with effective exam practice and revision for the GCSE (9-1) Literature paper. Questions are on character, theme, setting and relationships.
14 extracts of around 60 lines each, followed by 2 questions, as in the sample paper, to provide exam practice and to help with revision for students studying for the Cambridge Literature IGCSE. The sheets can be edited if a different question focus is required

3 worksheets, one on abstract nouns, one on idioms, and one, harder one, matching idioms to abstract nouns. I made this for a bright Year 5 child I was tutoring, but used it with lower secondary pupils too. I’m always surprised at how difficult some idioms are for many students to fathom, yet they appear frequently in literature, so a little practice can be helpful…well, i hope you find it to be so!
13 extracts from the play, each of around 50 lines, followed by 2 questions, as in the sample paper, to provide exam practice and help with revision for students studying for the Cambridge IGCSE. The sheets can easily be edited if required.
Based on the sample assessment materials for GCSE 9-1, these 15 extracts from ‘Jane Eyre’ are followed by both questions a) and b) to reflect the demands of the exam. They will, therefore, provide lots of exam practice and revision on character, theme and technique.
A short, straight-forward comprehension, with 6 information retrieval questions, followed by vocabulary, (4 words to define), 2 short language tasks and a writing task. Suitable for 10-13 year olds in a cover lesson, as homework or for a quiet 30 minutes learning about the Summer Solstice!

These 8 extracts (from: Speckled Band, Study in Scarlett, Hound of Baskervilles,Engineer’s Thumb, Boscombe Valley Mystery, Silver Blaze, 5 Orange Pips & Scandal in Bohemia,) all contain a mixture of language, vocabulary and information retrieval style comprehension questions. The comprehensions are suitable for introducing KS3 students to texts from pre 1914 and providing experience of the demands of the 9-1 GCSE . They focus on the more accessible, interesting sections of the Sherlock Holmes Mysteries & as such, hopefully provide an impression of the characters of Sherlock & Watson, as well as the language and setting, and the complexities of Conan Doyle’s work. For GCSE 9-1 Literature, the Shakespeare section, here are 15 more extracts from Romeo & Juliet, with questions a) & b), in the style of the 2017 paper. These will provide students with revision in the form of exam practice. The questions are on characters and themes, and feature a range of scenes.

For CIE Literature, 32 practice papers on Rebecca Each paper has an extract-based question, with the chapter and page references given from the Virago Modern Classics edition for each extract, and a general question on theme or character, as in the exam itself. Copyright precludes the provision of the full extracts.
Using past and sample papers for the AQA 9-1 Literature exam, these 14 exam questions have been created in a similar style. Each has an extract and question on characters or themes to provide helpful revision and exam practice, either in class or at home.
A short worksheet to practise the use of imperative verbs, specifically linked to persuasive writing. it might be useful as a starter task or to revise the structure.
A straight-forward comprehension on tennis, its history, modern day records etc suitable for 10-13 year olds. There are mainly information retrieval questions, one vocabulary question, one language analysis question and a descriptive writing task, with a suggested mark scheme and answers. It can be edited, but please not copied and sold. It may be useful as a quiet class task, cover lesson, homework or for tuition.
