We then look at writing in the first person, past tense and sequencing events in the chapter, with work on adding time connectives, before children confidently and independently write a diary entry.

This is a reflective art day looking at cherry and plum blossom in East Asian culture, how it is portrayed in art and what it represents. Developed originally for use with year 5 during spring term, but could be used in any KS2 class.
This resource focuses on building work in children’s sketchbooks and upon them developing their brush skills using both water colour and then acrylic paints. (Although the type of paint could be adapted easily.)
National Curriculum Links:
Art Day Contents:
Starting with details of the cultural significance of cherry and plum blossom trees in Japan and China. Followed by a virtual gallery trip to look at traditional East Asian art. A nature walk is also a good stimulus to further inspire children.
Throughout the day, opportunities are planned for children to develop their brush skills and also to adapt and build upon their ideas for their final piece of work.
By the end of the art day / block of lessons children will have filled several pages of their art sketchbooks and have a final piece inspired by the days work ready for display.
The final outcome is a blossom painting inspired by traditional cherry and plum blossom paintings from China and Japan.
An extension activity allowing children to explore writing Chinese characters and perhaps adding them to their final piece of work is included as a work sheet.
This resource could very easily be adapted to 5 or 6 shorter lessons with the same outcome if a whole art day was not possible.

Celebrating Fathers Day.
An English lesson planned for KS1 but could also be useful in KS2 year 3
This lesson has been planned to help you celebrate Fathers Day with your class.
Children will be focusing on their reading skills whilst completing an individual cloze activity that they can take home as a Fathers Day gift.
This cloze activity is in the form of a thank you letter to Dad.
We are aware that for some children their male carer may not be called ‘Dad’ so we have various versions of the activity so that you can give each child a suitable version to complete as a Fathers Day gift.
L.O. I can read back my work to check that it makes sense.
Included in this download:
Lesson Plan linked to NC2014
Lesson Presentation in Smart Notebook (slides also visible in PDF format)
Cloze Procedure Letter Worksheets. (Various Dad, Daddy, Father, Uncle, Papa, Grandad, Grandpa plus a blank version.) All printable resources are in PDF format. Both cursive and standard font versions are included.

Blank Word Bank
(Reduce the number of words on the word bank to further support LA pupils. Extend MA children by removing word bank and asking them to complete activity with their own words. )

We are ExcitEd to share a free card template with step by step instructions to celebrate Mothers Day 2024.
Children will create a beautiful card with ease to take home to whomever their mother figure is.
Mummy, Grannie, Auntie, Big sister or someone else, it doesn’t matter as this card is suitable for all.
INCLUDED:
PDF Mothers Day Card Template
PPT Mothers Day Card Instructions
The instructions are included on both the card template printable and a separate PowerPoint presentation.
Children will need to colour the template, cut it out and make a concertina to stick between two card hands. When the card is opened it reads, ‘I Love you this much and more.’ Personal messages and names can be written on the card hands.
