From the 1st December, use this festive digital advent calendar to count down to Christmas. A fun addition to your daily December routine for KS1 or KS2!
This resource is included as an editable PowerPoint and Google Slides document so you can use the one you prefer. The PowerPoint file has more options for slide transition (especially sounds) but otherwise, both files are the same.
How does it work?
There are 24 slides (one for each day of the month up to 24th December).
A fixed, animated background is included for each slide, and you can add your own text and/or extra images for each day. You could include some mental or physical warm-ups, festive jokes, mindfulness activities, motivational quotes… the choice is yours.
When you’ve filled in your slides, switch to present mode and click one of the numbered doors on slide 1. The link will take you to the corresponding slide.

These fun cut-and-paste foldable sequencing activities are a fun way to learn or review some examples of the life cycle of a bird.
A cross between a worksheet and a science craft, these hands-on resources cover 4 bird life cycles - a penguin, owl, chicken and flamingo.
Each foldout breaks down the life cycle into 4 parts (the penguin and owl also have a 6 part option). The differentiated template options make this a versatile resource to use for science in KS1 or lower KS2.
Life cycle of a chicken templates

Pupils could complete a foldout, then research the bird they have chosen and find out more about the stages of its life cycle (e.g. the length of each stage, where they nest, how many eggs are laid at a time). Guidance for this is not included.

A fun foldable craft for exploring the stages of a chicken’s life cycle. A great follow-up activity after hatching out chicks! Alternatively, use for a farm animals or Easter/spring activity.

Explore a rockpool habitat without getting your feet wet with this rock pool safari. This resource introduces children to some of the animals that make their home in a rockpool through an engaging interactive presentation (PowerPoint and Google Slides) and no-prep printables (word wall and 3 worksheets).

What you need
You’ll need coloured pencils, scissors and glue. You may find it useful to have a pre-made example for children who might require more of a visual cue for the folding.
What else is included?
Life cycle sequencing cards and arrows in colour and black/white. One way you could use these is to print them onto card and cut out each piece. Children could work in small groups to sequence the life cycle stages, using the arrows to link them together. Laminate for longevity.
