AQA radioactivity types worksheet, 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Worksheet covering the types of radioactivity over two pages. Questions on alpha, beta and gamma radiation, nuclear decay, neutron emission and half-life. Based on review of past paper questions, I’ve found knowing exactly what blocks different types of radiation is a key topic for practice and there’s a lot of questions on this. There’s a wide range of pictures and diagrams to jog students’ memory, and I mention alternative ways of writing the decay equations. This worksheet is especially targeted for the AQA 9-1 physics GCSE, although it could also be used for any other physics GCSE or secondary-level course. A version converted to black and white is included. Model answers are based on collation of many past paper questions, giving extensive exam tips. Want to know exactly what definition of gamma radiation AQA want? It’s on page 2 of the mark scheme. 2024 updates: links to videos of emitters from the IOP and using beta particles are included on the mark scheme and a wrong number for charge has been corrected.

Edexcel iGCSE biology respiration worksheet and written question revision notes

(0)
I’ve found respiration is one of the most important things for students to get right studying biology. The equations are so important, but many GCSE and even some weaker A-level biology students can’t instantly give them. I explain to students that they’re an instant grade boost. Here’s a worksheet and set of notes on one page on the most common respiration questions. There’s the word equations, a guide through the standard question about how your heart and breathing rate change with exercise, and there’s links to some recommended videos. Versions included for colour and black and white printing. Full mark scheme included with the worksheet. Remembering the equations for respiration is one of the last things I always go over with students just before their exams, because it’s such a morale booster to instantly get full marks on one of these questions. I will never forget what one student told me in 2021: “It came up! Exactly what you said, it came up!” This set of notes targets Edexcel 9-1 iGCSE biology and uses lactate as the standard term rather than lactic acid. I have a version targeted towards other GCSEs such as the AQA course as well. Questions consulted as models for answers included the 1B 2019 and 1BR 2020 papers and 2B 2017.

Ionic bonding lesson plan: presentation, notes and worksheet, AQA and Edexcel chemistry GCSE 9-1

(0)
Lesson plan on ionic bonding, featuring a lesson plan presentation, one-page notes for students to take home and a question sheet for students to do. Covers ionic bonding, state at room temperature, common properties, conductivity of electricity, strength and dot and cross diagrams for forming ions. There’s diagrams, pictures and links to two recommended YouTube videos. The question sheet is intended to be a graduated scheme of work with first fill-in-the-blank and then written questions. Written for AQA 9-1 GCSE chemistry and also for Edexcel GCSE and iGCSE chemistry, but suitable for all the major exam boards. It’s also good for introduction to A-level as a recap.
Common ions poster list

Common ions poster list

(0)
Poster showing all the most common ions students need to know about and their charges, and a reminder that negative ions have gained electrons and positive ions have lost them. Clean modern design, great for GCSE and A-level students for all courses. Most courses don’t have phosphate on the list of ions to know, so I’ve left it off the main list. But in case your course does need it, I’ve added a second version of the sheet with the phosphate ion added. If you like this resource, you might want my exercises working out formulas of ionic chemicals. Update, April 2024: added zinc and some hints about iron(II) vs. iron(III)

What does "per" mean? Worked example mathematics stories

(0)
Explanation of what “per” means: that it means you need to divide. Two stories are given as examples. Suitable for primary school maths and science. Because people have a lot of trouble learning this, this could be useful across a lot of ages, KS1, KS2, KS3 or weaker GCSE students who need a bit of help.
Common inorganic reactions poster
almt-tuitionalmt-tuition

Common inorganic reactions poster

(0)
Poster naming some of the most common inorganic reactions at GCSE and A-level chemistry: metals reacting with water and acid, metal hydroxides, oxides, carbonates and ammonia reacting with acids. Clean, modern design highlighting similarities between the reactions e.g. water formed. There’s versions both in colour and in black and white. The formulas of the negative ions are given for nitrate, chloride and sulfate ions. Suitable for all major GCSE exam boards (e.g. Edexcel, AQA, Cambridge), and I find it really helpful to help A-level students recap what they learned at GCSE and forgot over the summer!
Ionic chemical formulas, poster on one page, worksheet and answers GCSE and A-level chemistry
almt-tuitionalmt-tuition

Ionic chemical formulas, poster on one page, worksheet and answers GCSE and A-level chemistry

(0)
One-page poster and revision notes showing how to work out the formula of ionic chemicals. Includes a list of common ions, and the three scenarios: swap and drop, the ions have the same charge, and there’s more than one of an ion made of more than one atom so you need brackets. Versions both in colour and carefully converted into black and white. Then there’s also a question sheet working out the formulas of 21 chemicals, and the answers on a separate sheet. Suitable for both GCSE and A-level students-I find it really helpful as a recap for A-level students to recap the topic, since they’ve often forgotten it from GCSE. September 2023 update: based on feedback from students, I’ve explained more about what iron(II) and iron(III) are, and turned the part about when you use brackets into a checklist of questions to ask. I’ve also created an additional version of the questions split into two sets so one can be homework. The questions in the homework set 2 are similar at each level but the hardest questions are in set 1.
Intermolecular interactions notes table Edexcel A-level chemistry
almt-tuitionalmt-tuition

Intermolecular interactions notes table Edexcel A-level chemistry

(0)
Two page set of notes in table format on intermolecular interactions, listing the forces, where they come from and how strong they are: London forces, permanent dipole-dipole, hydrogen bonds. Also includes notes on which type of chemical has what forces. Page 2 explains how aldehydes and ketones and esters are hydrogen bond acceptors. Following the example of Chemguide, explains permanent dipole-dipole as more adding a bit of strength on top of London forces than making the molecule highly polar and hydrophilic like hydrogen bonding. Bold, eye-catching typography and careful design sets this lesson plan out. Special bonus! This pack contains three sets of notes depending on what your course calls London forces/van der Waals forces/instantaneous-induced dipole forces, so if you teach multiple courses you’re always covered: Edexcel, OCR, AQA, Cambridge. I sell multiple SKUs of this set of three notes to advertise at teachers teaching different courses, but they contain the same content: all three files in the same pack.
Confocal microscopy revision notes

Confocal microscopy revision notes

(0)
One-page set of notes on confocal microscopy targeting A-level biology (especially OCR A) with some selected images and a link to a recommended video. Although suitable for other courses, these notes were specifically targeted at OCR A-level biology A. The focus is on the images produced by confocal microscopy rather than on the details of how the mirror system works. Questions studied writing this pack (and recommended for exam technique) included: AS-level unit 2, question 1 from 2017 AS-level unit 2 specimen, question 6 (MCQ) A-level 2020 paper 1, question 2 (MCQ)
Edexcel iGCSE chemistry written question revision notes

Edexcel iGCSE chemistry written question revision notes

(0)
Some of the hardest questions for many GCSE chemistry students are the long answer written questions, explaining things like why the rate of reaction increases when you increase the temperature, and how the position of equilibrium shifts. So I’ve written a one-page set of notes for the Edexcel iGCSE chemistry course that covers all these questions, fitting them onto a single page. These notes cover: how temperature and concentration affect rate of reaction melting point of ionic, molecular and giant covalent chemicals equilibrium position conductivity It makes chemistry so much easier for students having everything on a single page. Particularly intended for iGCSE chemistry but I think it’s also pretty helpful for A-level students just starting the course who need to recap what they did last year, many will have forgotten these topics. This set of notes was written consulting current Edexcel iGCSE chemistry papers and mark schemes. Questions consulted included: rate: 1CR June 2019, question 5d bonding: 1CR June 2019 9a and 9b equilibrium: June 2019, 2C 7b and 2CR 7b conductivity: 2CR June 2019 and Paper 1CR June 2019 9c diffusion: 1C Jan 2018, 3c ii) Versions with colour pictures and without pictures for photocopying. I also have a version for the AQA GCSEs and a combined set for a range of courses.
