I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Music Earnings - Percentages (Mainly)

(1)
I found a simple bar chart online breaking down where the money from a CD sale goes and came up with this. It's mainly percentages, but there are exchange rates and calculations to be done too. I&'m sure you can all come up with other questions about it, but this is what I dreamt up!

Valentine's Chocolates

Cut the cost of producing your box of Valentine's Chocolates by reducing the amount of packaging you have. Surface area and could be taken to varying levels of difficulty.

QR Code Puzzle 10 - Rounding

(0)
Round the numbers - if it rounds up, colour in the appropriate square; if it rounds down, leave that square blank. When finished it scans to Dead Or Alive's 1985 classic 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)'. Poor pun, but the best I could do!
Exploding Ratio

Exploding Ratio

This aims, through four separate, increasingly difficult sheets, to give students a chance to show that they can share in a given ratio as well as simplify ratios. I have used different units and specified units to be used in most cases meaning that students must convert. Hopefully this will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the topic and will encourage discussion.
Scale Drawing etc Codebreaker

Scale Drawing etc Codebreaker

(1)
The usual business: answers some maths questions, find the letters from the table and get the punchline to a terrible joke. Ideal for starters, plenaries, whatever you like (you’re an adult).

The Solid Caravan Company - Volume

(3)
The Solid Caravan Company is planning to sell some avant garde caravans of different mathematical shapes but need to put each design's capacity in the brochure in cubic metres. Can you help calculate the volume in each case? Cube, cuboid, cylinder, triangular prism, square-based pyramid and cone shapes used. (The maximum width has to be 2.9m to avoid requiring a police escort for being a "wide load" by the way).
Crack The Safe - Vectors

Crack The Safe - Vectors

(2)
The usual activity on these but with vectors this time. Students can check that they are doing the right sort of thing as possible answers are on the sheet. Designed to be a starter/plenary.
Expanding and Factorising (Single Brackets) Codbreakers

Expanding and Factorising (Single Brackets) Codbreakers

(2)
The usual concept: do some maths to find the punchline to a cheesy (fish-related) joke. These work well both online and in class due to the answer spelling something so students know whether they are doing it right (or wrong!) quite quickly. There are two codbreakers here: one on expanding a bracket and one on factorising into a single bracket. Typos corrected…
Probability Scale Codbreaker

Probability Scale Codbreaker

(1)
Answer the probability questions, link them to the probability scale and unjumble the punchline to a fish-related joke. These have worked really well in online lessons, but also work well in in-person lessons, despite the groans regarding the jokes…

Trigonometry In Right-Angled Triangles - Fill In The Blanks

(0)
Two sets of questions, one on calculating sides, one on calculating angles, where parts have been missed out. This encourages students to work forwards and backwards and not get into “algorithm mode” and hopefully helps deepen understanding (that’s the plan anyway).
Solving Quadratics Codebreaker 3

Solving Quadratics Codebreaker 3

(4)
Another joke whose punchline is revealed upon doing a load of maths. This is designed as a plenary/starter. Numbers 1 and 2 in the "Solving Quadratics" series are uploaded from months ago. Error corrected this time I hope!
Angle Properties Spiders

Angle Properties Spiders

(2)
Six "spiders" on six different sets of angle properties starting with "on a line", "around a point", "triangles", "polygons", "parallel lines" and "circle theorems". The final two require students to name the property used and I have left a couple of the parallel lines with the answers filled in so that students can draw their own diagram. The activity is designed to create discussion.

Erica's Errors On Integration 5

(1)
Erica is struggling with differential equations and regions bounded by two curves. Seriously, she needs some help so please get your students to explain what she has done and correct her homework. This gives students the opportunity to demostrate their understanding.
