This is like Expressions 1 but tougher - involves simplifying with brackets etc. Again I have put two versions: one with my face and one with smileys. A bid to make simplifying expressions more memorable.

I had nothing other than exam questions for inequalities so thought I'd try and come up with something a little more colourful. You solve the inequalities and colour all the integers in the grid that satisfy the inequality to reveal a mathematical symbol.

I really wanted some frequency polygon work but it is very thin on the ground, so I came up with this. I have also linked the website from which I got all the data. There are two versions; one (Raw Data) where they must tabulate first, and a second (Data Tables) for those you just want to get on with graphing and interpreting.

I wanted more than just a dull set of questions where you multiply and divide by powers of 10 so came up with this. It goes from pretty simple stuff to decimals.

Work out what Santa has left in my stocking by solving the equations, swapping the numbers for letters and then working out the anagram.

This goes from discovering how c and m "work" in y=mx+c and then takes them through finding the gradient, finding an equation given a line, plotting a line from an equation and finally finding the equation given two points on the line. At the start of the sheet is a RAG analysis for them to demonstrate progress and target what they need to focus on.

Help William 'Billy' Black anaylise the data he has to see if he will make enough before his abduction by aliens. This includes reading pictograms, bar charts, pie charts, frequency polygons, finding three averages and estimating the mean. I'm sure you can all come up with other calculations/interpretations that they can make too! Hopefully I have corrected the typo too.

Two codebreakers, the second one being a touch harder, involving time calculations. Two cheesy jokes for the students to discover. Can be used as a class activity, starter, plenary, discussion exercise or homework (or however you want really, including not at all). Error mentioned in the comments now corrected - thank you!

These three powperpoints are designed to lead people through multiplying out brackets. I would suggest searching for Alex Bellos' different ways of doing long multiplication on YouTube as they link nicely in with the first bit of the 'Multiplying out 2 brackets' presentation and are a bit of fun too.

I did this having seen numerous poor attempts at sketches in books on recognising types of graph.

This takes students through percentage of an amount, one number as a percentage of another, percentage increase and decrease (including multipliers), percentage change, repeated percentage change and the reverse. This should be more challenging as the students go through it and should produce discussion.

Inspired by the imminent release of the new Star Wars film The Force Awakens and an article on the BBC's Newsbeat website (linked in the Powerpoint) I created these standard form questions based upon predictions made by mathematicians regarding the Galactic Empire's Death Star. Just a bit of fun really, but eight standard form questions for your students to try, mainly converting from standard form to "normal" numbers and vice versa, but one calculation at the end. There's also some Death Star facts that could provide extra questions if you wish.

I spotted a gap and have hopefully filled it. The usual “answer the questions to get the punchline” stuff involving conversion between metric units of length, area and volume.

This is a range of GCSE questions based around a bonfire. It involves circumference and area of a circle, percentages, Pythagoras, trigonometry, volume and surface area of cones.

Dividing polynomials and the factor and the remainder theorem practise.

Match up the picture with the ratio with the proportion.

A student gave me the name and I came up with the rest. Simple ratio and proportion. I have done a worksheet but will probably use it as a powerpoint and get them to do the answers. The ratios don't get massively difficult, so more for lower ability I would say.

A simple worksheet on drawing pie charts with some practise questions. Nothing special, just doing a job.

Cut out the questions and match them with the correct answers.

Four trigonometry spiders: the first two involve right-angled triangles (one for finding sides and one for finding angles), the third involves non-right-angled triangles and the fourth involves 3D trigonometry. They should encourage discussion in class as they get more difficult from "12 o'clock" and moving clockwise.
