I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Maths IGCSE (Edexcel) Topic RAG Sheet - Updated Summer 2023

(14)
This not only lists all the topics on the IGCSE maths syllabus but also gives an example of what they all are so you don’t get the continual question “what does this topic mean?”. I put a RAG analysis against each too so that students can focus revision to where it’s required. A few topics added including expanding 3 brackets, transforming functions, an extra indices example, shading regions (I originally left this off by mistake) and adding/subtracting algebraic fractions. I have just added some more examples of transformations and constructions plus summing arithmetic sequences and recurring decimals. Also includes Sparx activity codes (you can delete if you don’t want those). There are now answers (which I have done quite quickly so hopefully not too many errors!).

Distance-Time Graph Spiders

Three "spiders" involving three different distance-time graphs and questions involving read them and speed. Hopefully this has covered most, if not all possible questions from a distance-time graph.

Negative Moods - Directed Numbers

I have included two versions of this worksheet, one with smileys and one using some awful pictures of myself that will make the kids laugh! This aimed at lower ability students and offers a way of using a number line to add and subtract numbers.

Batman and Robin Loci Worksheet

Using loci which criminals are caught in each of the four situations. This involves the locus around a point, perpendicular bisector and angle bisector. Have tried to show rough answers too, if it helps.

What Was The Question? Christmas Theme

(11)
The students are given the answer and asked to fill in the gaps in the question. Topics used involve probability, equations, simultaneous equations, fractions, percentages, ratio, speed, distance, time and many others. Some of the questions allow for multiple answers so discussion could be had. Designed to be used as starters/plenaries to get the grey matter moving. The Christmas theme runs through every question and is a tad tenuous at times but there you go.

Probability (Tree Diagrams) Codebreaker

This is a poor joke whose punchline that is discovered by solving the probability problems listed. One has a tree diagram drawn and the others could use a tree diagram but ultimately they can be done without.

A student gave me the title (pun on 'The Hunger Games' - original was 'The Number Games'), I did the rest. Five different sets of questions in a functional style for students to work through either individually or in pairs/teams.

Speed Camera Dilemma - Box Plots

A student asked me in a lesson today 'Who is ever going to use this in real life?'. So I did this as an example. Students choose on which 2 of 5 roads should speed cameras be installed and explain why they made their choice.
