I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Defuse The Bomb - Area and Perimeter

Defuse The Bomb - Area and Perimeter

(1)
Five “Defuse The Bomb” sheets on area and perimeter including: rectangles/triangles, parallelograms/trapeziums, circles, compound shapes (no circles), compound shapes (including circles). These are designed to give students a bit of confidence as the correct answers appear on the sheet whilst you, as the teacher, can help those who are struggling initially. These have worked well in the classroom and online but could also work as homework tasks.
Standard Form Codbreaker

Standard Form Codbreaker

(1)
Another fish-related joke after some standard form conversions and calculations. Ideal for online lessons but also in-person lessons.
Show that... Circle Theorems

Show that... Circle Theorems

(1)
Four “show that…” questions that encourage explanations ahead of final answers (which are already given). These are designed to create discussion and get students to think about the steps they are taking.
Angles Codbreaker

Angles Codbreaker

(1)
Find the missing angles on a line, in triangles, in polygons and parallel lines and find the punchline to the fish-related joke. These have worked nicely in online lessons and in-person lessons before that. Students gain confidence as words appear and teacher can help those who really need it rather than those who just want to check that they are going right.
Transformations Codbreaker

Transformations Codbreaker

(1)
Find the letters upon which the shapes land on and uncover the joke on a fish theme. These are popular (no matter the quality of the joke) in both online and in-person lessons.

Related Non-Linear Equations

This (hopefully) shows how your skills at factorising and solving quadratics can enable you to solve other non-linear equations. Initially students must solve three straightforward quadratic equations, then look at a number of other equations that are linked to them, using their initial answers to help solve the more complex equations. This moves on to solving more complex equations. This could be a bridging resource between GCSE and A Level as it involves trigonometric and exponential equations.

QR Code Defuse The Bomb - Number

(1)
The infamous terrorist 'The Mathematician' has planted more bombs. Answer the problems, pick the right answer then scan the QR code associated with that answer. The song or artist that appears contains a number which is part of the code required to defuse the bomb. Riddled with 80s classics! Enjoy!

Equations Cinema

(1)
This is a discussion activity for use with lower ability classes and solving equations. Funnily enough, this sort of thing does normally happen to me, although not at a cinema showing equations films!

Sporting Statistics

(1)
I found the 'Research' section on the Sport England website and noticed that their graphs and charts are more aesthetically focused than useful. I therefore came up with this. There's loads of useful stuff on the website (which is hyperlinked in the powerpoint), especially the infographics bit in 'Who Plays Sport?'.
Superheroes and Villains Temperature Conversions

Superheroes and Villains Temperature Conversions

(1)
The labels and thermostats on their new costumes have been mixed up so they need to convert Celcius to Fahrenheit and vice versa to see if the suits will withstand the temperatures they produce. It's simple substitution basically.
Superman Graphing

Superman Graphing

(1)
You are an air traffic controller at Metropolis airport and have to plot Superman's course using the equations given and discover where all the villains are.
Mr T Algebra
alutwychealutwyche

Mr T Algebra

(1)
Find the formulae to calculate how many Snickers bars Mr T fires at the walker and the swimmer. Starts off with numerical problems then moves onto general formulae.

Collective Memory - Fractions,Decimals,Percentages

If you've done these before it follows the same pattern. If not, you show the screen for 30 seconds, they look in silence (without writing anything). They then get everything down on paper. Show the screen a few more times. Judge at the end. Instructions are on there.
Woody and Buzz's Mathematical Adventure

Woody and Buzz's Mathematical Adventure

(1)
This is just a general, 'end-of-term' activity containing a few different, and fairly simple maths problems, including co-ordinates, locus, Pythagoras/trigonometry/scale drawing, conversion, solving linear equations, ratio, substitution. It is designed for most students to do.
Supermarket Sweep Activity - KS3

Supermarket Sweep Activity - KS3

(1)
This activity uses clues involving number facts and special numbers to find certain items in a supermarket. Some of the clues are easier than others, but it's a nice challenge and makes students aware of Fibonacci, square, cube and triangle numbers.
