Pick a letter that forms the shape described and find the punchline.

Inspired by mrbarton's collective memory tasks that my classes have enjoyed I wrote these for some lower ability classes I teach. There are calculations for them to do too. If you don't know how they work, get students in groups of 3/4, show the file on the board for 30 seconds and they try to copy what they remember from it (no writing whilst file is being shown). Show the file a total of 4 or 5 times. Great for discussions etc.

These are an attempt to break from the monotony of past papers in the run up to exam season. I have taken 2 or 4 (depending on whether they will fit on a page!) questions from past papers and put them on one sheet; I will photocopy onto A3 for students to have a go in groups and discuss. The aims/rules etc are all listed if you wish to follow them and hopefully they all make sense. I have also provided answers.

This leads students through graphing trigonometric functions, transforming f(x) and transforming a trigonometric function. The graphs are as big as I can make them in the format given so sorry if they are a bit small. I used Desmos for the graphs if you are interested (it’s brilliant!).

Given the information on the bands A-ha, Depeche Mode, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Madness, can you argue who the best/most successful band of the 1980s was? This is designed to get students to think about relevant calculations to back up their argument. I have calculated some answers but won't have covered everything.

Designed as a starter for worded mathematical problems this involves a wordsearch where the answers all go into a table linking words like "sun" and "total" to addition etc. These are followed by a few questions.

This is designed to help students through the thought process of where a graph will be given its equation. I have given options as to shape and asked where the graph will intersect with the axes. It involves linear, quadratic, cubic, reciprocal and exponential graphs as well as a couple of challenge ones at the end.

A couple of statitstical graphs regarding the World Cup with some questions that I've come up with for my class(es); I&'m sure you could come up with different ones if you wish. The website I got them from is very USA-centric but interesting and could be used as a numeracy resource or cross-curricular stuff.

I realised that I have very little on this topic, so I came up with this. Four different functions, each with five transformations of increasing difficulty and students need to find where a point moves to. Error corrected!

This is a simple linear graph exercise for fairly basic y=mx+c work, unless you chose to ban certain linear graphs like y=x or y=-x etc.

I found the 'Research' section on the Sport England website and noticed that their graphs and charts are more aesthetically focused than useful. I therefore came up with this. There's loads of useful stuff on the website (which is hyperlinked in the powerpoint), especially the infographics bit in 'Who Plays Sport?'.

This was born out of a conversation in our department; it revises products of prime factors and then uses them to simplify surds. There is a challenge side of this two-sided sheet where the surds are only partially simplified. Typo in answers corrected.

The usual terrible joke revealed having dealt with partial fractions with mixed numbers (a remainder) and partial fractions with (x+n)^2 on the denominator.

A relatively simple activity of putting X-Men's enemies into Venn diagrams, not using any of the notation.
