I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Solving Linear Equations

(80)
A series of lessons taking students through 'I think of a number' problems to simple equations, equations with brackets to letters on both sides to equations with fractional parts.

Expanding, Factorising and Solving Quadratics

(73)
This is designed to take the students from simple expanding a bracket to simple factorising to multiplying out two brackets to factorising quadratics to simplifying algebraic fractions to solving quadratics by completing the square to solving quadratics using the quadratic formula and simultaneous equations involving quadratics. There are questions for each as well as examples and explanations. Between each section there is a 'Where are you now?' section to show progress.

Music Industry Trends

From a link on Twitter (thank you @beetlebug1) I put together this as an activity to describe the trends in sales in the music industry. This involves predictions too and should get students to read the pie charts carefully, seeing how statistics are used in a context they are familiar with.

Phineas and Ferb - Trigonometry

Can you help Phineas and Ferb find the missing measurements in these calculations for their giant catapult? You also need to tell Dr Doofenshmirz whether his ray gun will still be accurate when he fires it at Agent P. Designed to be a starter or plenary.

Phineas and Ferb - Pythagoras

(2)
This is designed to be used as a starter or plenary: Can you help Phineas and Ferb calculate the missing sides on the rollercoaters they are building? Dr Doofenshmirtz also needs to know if his Snailanator ray will hit Agent P.
Monty Python Maths

Monty Python Maths

(4)
Using some (clean!) clips from Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail and Life of Brian (5 clips in total) there are some maths questions. Each clip (which has a hyperlink as the embed feature in Powerpoint is messing about) has 3 questions. It was a challenge given to me on Twitter! Should be fun though, and I will have to prevent myself from giggling in the corner. There are Smart Notebook version but the file size exceeds the limit apparently!

Collective Memory - Circles and Sectors

Show it for 20 seconds then they have to remember it exactly. I put the picture of me on there so they would concentrate on their reproduction rather than staring around the room, but feel free to change it to a picture of your choice!
Transforming Words

Transforming Words

(1)
Describe the transformations of the letters to spell the word 'MATHS'. It was an idea suggested by one of my Year 11s that seemed decent.

Reflection Worksheet

(7)
I just wanted a reasonably simple reflection worksheet for some lower ability students so came up with this and it seemed to challenge them.
My Biopic - Average and Range

My Biopic - Average and Range

(2)
Using average and range convince me that Steven Spielberg should direct my biopic. This combines a bit of literacy too, but should get them using averages to explain their reasoning.
Prison Break - Loci

Prison Break - Loci

(19)
Using the characters from Prison Break Season 1 (trailer is included) you have to narrow down the search area for the authorities. Maps are provided. There are seven to catch.

Increasingly difficult questions from D grade up to A grade and with a 'Red, Amber, Green' table to fill in their progress. I've said that it can be used at KS3 as well, because I reckon that they will figure out the tougher stuff. (One mistake now corrected.)

I've Taken To Loci With Superman

(5)
Having seen a link to a clip from Taken 2 posted by @dwatson802 (thank you, by the way) I came up with this. I was going to do more from Taken 2 but couldn't find a good map of Istanbul! It&'s locus around a point and perpendicular bisector basically with some success criteria.
Perfect Face - Symmetry and Reflection

Perfect Face - Symmetry and Reflection

(3)
A fairly basic set of tasks plus a picture of who scientists say has a 'perfect face'. A couple of tougher reflections of snowflakes at the end, plus a dodgy picture of me (early in the morning)! Feel free to delete the final picture or replace with one of you.

Have A Pizza These Maths Problems

I came up with the title on the sheet first and then built some maths problems around them. The grades for each are only to give an idea to the students, but hopefully it will get them thinking functionally.
