Percentage Yield
A lesson taking pupils through how to calculate percentage yield and the reasons why percentage yields are sometimes lower than expected. There are also some worksheets for pupils to complete. I print this on A5. The final activity is a 6 mark QWC question on sustainable development and percentage yield
Play your reactivity series cards right
Various presentations of the the metals in the reactivity series. The metals are not in the correct order and pupils need to say of the next metal in the presentation will be higher or lower in the reactivity series. Change the first slide to include your name. There are different versions so you can do the activity quickly, more than once. I have also included the correct order so you can show this first. A fun, fast paced stater or plenary resource for KS3 and KS4
Exo amd Endo reactions lesson
A presentation and resources for a lesson on Exo and Endothermic reactions, including a worksheet for a practical activity. I also buy some visual aides from the internet such as hand warmers and self heating cans. There are lots of sites where these are available.
AQA Chemistry revision - C1 misconceptions / Extended writing
A chance for pupils to write extended answers on misconceptions / difficult concepts from C1. I have included a set of sample answers that can also be provided. I sometimes print this on A3 paper and get pupils in small groups to work collaboratively.
Making soluble salts card sort
Produce your own set of cards for pupils to arrange or print out and put both sheets on one A4 sheet for pupils to cut and stick. Ideal for medium to low ability to reinforce the similar techniques in some methods
storyboard
Print out a copy of the story board to get pupils to summarise in words and pictures a topic. The resources is editable so you could add the pictures and get pupils to write out the story or you could add the text and get them to add the drawings. Lots of possibilities and ways to differentiate
Loop presentation of different Periodic Tables
I use this looped presentation at the beginning of a lesson whilst I am taking the register
What pH?
Print the pH numbers on different colours of card if available. Print out the different everyday substances and cut them out. Give each child a different substance and get them to guess the pH of the substance. Show the PowerPoint presentation about the pH of the different substances to see if they were right. The final slide gives you a chance to ask pupil if they can spot any similarities between acidic, alkaline and neutral substances
Food test Summary Activity
A worksheet to print off and get pupils to colour / fill in the blanks for food tests. I get my pupils to colour the bottle of the reagents where appropriate and then the test tubes to show the positive and negative results. It also gives a change for a summary of the why different food groups are required and the types of foods containing these nutrients
