Metals and Acids

(0)
Worksheet to go alongside a practical to investigate the reaction between metals and acids. Designed for year 8 students, differentiated throughout to stretch the most able. Worksheet is scaffolded so that students can: 1. Risk assess their practical including control measures and an evaluation of how well risks were managed. 2. Identify and explain control variables. 3. Record observations. 4. Use results to order metals according to reactivity. 5. Write word and symbol equations for reactions between metals and acids.
Alkenes worksheet

Alkenes worksheet

(0)
Worksheet designed for low ability students but could also be used as a shorter revision activity for other students. This worksheet helps students to recall the test and result for alkenes using Bromine water - which can be demonstrated for students. It also requires the use of molecular models to help students visualise the addition reaction that takes place when bromine reacts with an alkene and to model the different alkenes.
Crude Oil and Alkanes Worksheet

Crude Oil and Alkanes Worksheet

(0)
Worksheet for low ability students studying AQA GCSE Chemistry (teaching from 2016) covering key information on crude oil, hydrocarbons and alkanes. Scaffolded worksheet introduces new key words, with fill the gaps and short answer questions - this works well as a good summary activity following discussion about what students already know about crude oil and the introduction of key ideas. This activity also requires a molecular modelling kit to help students to visualise the alkane molecules (methane, ethane, propane and butane) and begin to recognise patterns in their names and formulae.
Atomic Structure and Isotopes

Atomic Structure and Isotopes

(0)
Scaffolded worksheet for students to independently research atomic structure and isotopes. Initially designed for OCR Gateway Additional Science - C4. Use alongside a text book or ICT equipment. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe the structure of the atom. 2. Calculate the number of protons, neutrons and electrons from the atomic number and mass number of an element.
