Writing - Season Poetry - Winter Festivities Poem - Lesson 6 - KS1/KS2
With the National Curriculum in mind, I have created this season-based lesson. As reinforced by the National Curriculum, children should experience high-quality discussions on a wide range of poems and learn the poetry tools to create their own.
The season focus for this lesson is winter. Many detailed pictures are attached of snow, snowball, snowman, snow angel, snow fights, snow covered park/mountains, fireplace, hot drinks (hot chocolate), snow in the city and snow in London. Also discussed in detail are the non-religious winter holidays and religious holidays that often occur in the winter months (Hanukkah, Christmas, and Diwali). Children will learn about these religious holidays and a special item often associated with each holiday (Christmas tree, Mince pies, Menorah, Latkes, Sufganiyot, Diya/Diva lamps and the many different foods eaten on Diwali). There 3 poems each associated with a particular religious festival. Also included in this powerpoint is a non-religious poem about the winter holidays. These slides can be edited to include or exclude certain elements to suit different classes. This lesson can be a stand alone lesson however I would recommend teaching the previous lessons (in my shop) to help children understand how to write a poem as the quality of their poetry will depend on the children’s ability.

The lesson demonstrates how rich Victorian children were raised compared to the life of poor Victorian children, who needed to work to survive. Many detailed pictures and videos are attached (leaves, types of leaves, natural views of the process of autumn, chocolates, candied apples). A few teaching slides with a range of autumnal leaves (aspen, ash, sycamore, oak, apple, white poplar, birch, beech, field maple, crack willow, and hawthorn). With more of a focus on the most common leaves (sycamore, ash, and oak).

Maths Resources - Part Whole Model - Blank Template - KS1/KS2
The part whole model is a pictorial representation that shows the relationship between a whole and its parts. The part whole model is often used for small quantities where children should be able to see how many of something is there without counting, instead, they will subitise; they can also use base tens or hundreds to visualise the division. This part whole model template is divided in 3 parts.
The part whole model template helps create a solid foundation of understanding numbers. Both KS1 and KS2 children with a good foundation will begin to really explore numbers, they are encouraged to think of numbers in different ways. For example, they will begin to see the number seven as 4 and 3 or 5 and 2.
Materials (counters, cubes and objects) can be used to aid when dividing.
This template comes in both vertical and horizontal formats. It also comes in a A4 page but can be enlarged and be printed on A3.
