Subitizing is when a child can instantly recognise ‘how many’ something is without having to count. Ten frames are two-by-five rectangular frames that form a base for which objects like counters, cubes and objects can be placed to represent a particular number. The ten frame helps create a solid foundation of understanding numbers. Both KS1 and KS2 children with a good foundation will begin to really explore numbers and number bonds to 10.
