Questions around the ‘failed’ Apollo 13 mission that cover topics ranging from simple harmonic motion to gravitation to thermal physics and gas laws. These questions are designed to prepare students for the unified physics exam, where they will need a broad knowledge of the entire specification in order to succeed.

This is a bundle of 2 extended writing questions covering Ionising radiation and Thermodynamics. Included are blank assessment booklets for the students to complete (I usually run these as timed essays) as well as exemplar answers for discussion afterwards and for students to compare their own answers with. This has proven a really useful way to get my students to reflect on their use of language in their written communication - a skill that is often overlooked in physics.

This task is designed for group work. A group of students uses the information on the sheet and the periodic table to calculate the mass defects and binding energies for a range of isotopes. The data can then be used to plot the binding energy per nucleon graph.

Questions designed to mimic the style of the OCR Physics A Depth in Physics paper.

Students often struggle to write exhaustively on a topic. I designed these questions to encourage deeper thought on the physics of a situation and to drive students to write as much as they can, rather than to simply make as many points as there are marks available. These work excellently as either written homework questions, or questions that can be discussed in class.

This resources allows A Level physics students to investigate radioactivity using a spreadsheet, specifcially to help cover specification point 6.4.3 g of the OCR Physics A course which requires students to model radioactive decay using a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet does not hide any of its formulae, so it is a useful tool for students to see how the spreadsheet generates its data. There are 4 questions as part of the spreadsheet that students need to answer, so the activity can work well used in a computer room for a lesson or as a stand alone homework. In my experience, this activity really enhances the students’ understanding of the exponential nature of the decay equations.

Useful for student revision for AQA GCSE Combined Science Trilogy papers. These are assessment objective 1 based questions designed to test the students’ ability to recall the key information from the specification for the Physics, Chemistry and Biology Paper 1s. At the end of each set of questions is also a set of questions covering the key points to recall for the required practical acitivities relevant to the topics, as well as some basic math skills checks. Excellent for supporting lower ability candidates to build a solid foundation in their subject knowledge before building in the higher order explanation and analysis skills needed for AO2 and AO3.
