Great planning for year 5 for the Spring Term. Jam packed with plans, ideas, powerpoints etc. You get 200 mb of material, so great value. e.g. Persuasive writing, recounts, stories from other cultures, descriptive writing, model writing Plus you get some year 5 Autumn planning I did in one school I taught in.

100 Sudoku puzzles plus answers. Sudoku is a popular and fun puzzle that can be used with math classes to reinforce logic and problem-solving skills. Each puzzle grid contains 81 cells, divided into 9 blocks made up of 9 cells. The grids are presented with only some cells filled with numbers. To solve the puzzle, each block must contain the numbers 1 through 9. In each block, each number can only appear once in a column, row or block. Then across all blocks, within the larger puzzle, each 9 cell column and 9 cell row can have a number appear just once. Easy refers to the number of cells already filled in.

I’m now retired from teaching after decades in the classroom. I’d like to help the younger generation. One aspect I don’t miss in Sundays. Trying to fill in planning grids that were rarely used or looked at. What a nightmare! So I’ve put together my teaching plans etc from the various schools I was in. The zip contains loads. I’ve put a sample in the ordinary download to give you a flavour It’s mainly to do with Kensuke’s Kingdom. But there’s othet stuff too included for free. There’s stuff on Dolphin Boy, Butterfly boy etc. Feel free to adapt for your planning grid. Sample planning : Recount one event from holiday. Note features and language patterns to list. Chronological, time connectives, 1st person, past tense, personal views. Write a recount for the Easter holiday. Individual revision task. Focus on organization and links using temporal connective phrases. Personal views. Introduce ch 1 for Kensuke’s Kingdom. Record initial response with prediction. Select examples to show Michael’s feelings. List reasons for and against yourself and family setting off on a round the world sail, Justify relating to evidence selected from the text. Red: format provided Gr/Or: list reasons from two places Bl/Y: form contrasting sentences… begin with, “even though…” Read ch 2. In pairs. How does Mom feel about the trip and Dad’s ideas? What is the alternative? 1. Why has Michael decided now to tell his story? 2. Who are the members of Michael’s family? 3. What do the family do together on the weekends? Can you describe how it makes them feel? 4. Why do the family stop sailing? 5. What is the atmosphere like in the house? 6. What happened to Michael’s best friend? 7. What happens to Michael’s father and why? 8. What do you think happens next? 9. Describe the father when they meet up again. What sort of mood is he in? Read chapter three. List examples of each character’s feelings. How do Mom and Dad’s feelings compare. When Michael and his family first set sail, how many miles a day do they want to do? How many miles a day do they actually do? What game do Michael’s parents play? What do they eat? What creatures do they see off the coast of Africa? In November they went to Brazil. Where did they stop? What did Michael do in Brazil? What did they do on Christmas Day? Describe, in your own words, the incident with Stella Artois. Record the incident with Stella as a personal diary entry. Refer to events in the chapter. HA: personal style to include worries for the future. MA: Organise into paragraphs with links LA: use ed-ing-ly openers. You get 8.7 mb of stuff so that’s good value imo. In it are lesson plans, powerpoints, questions etc. Enjoy your Sundays!

I’ve retired from twenty five years teaching in the UK. I’ve gathered together my planning I did over the years for 4 to 11 year olds. There’s some great stuff there. Plenty of planning, powerpoints, worksheets, scripts for assemblies etc etc There is some stuff on Christmas in the world e.g. France There will be lots of things you can use to entertain the kids at this busy but wonderful time of the year. You get a massive of planning. 257 mb over 400 files Some caveats: I spent most but not all of my career in Catholic schools so everything has a Catholic feel. Lots of math stuff. I don’t have the time to sort everything so feel free to delete anything you regard as filler or irrelevant. You’ll need powerpoint and word to access most of it. Nearly everyone has that. there are some notebooks, flipcharts etc. I obviously can’t give you that so you have to get the free adobe reader and other free software to read some of the files.

Recognise how important Year 5’s job is. Examine some sources of information about the first and second world wars. Each year the nation expresses its unequivocal support for The Royal British Legion’s charity work through the Poppy Appeal. The emphasis this year is the need to help the Afghan generation of the Armed Forces and their families - today and for the rest of their lives. What is the Poppy Appeal? What is Remembrance Sunday? The Sunday nearest to November 11 when those who died in World War I and World War II are commemorated. In 1900 (how many years ago?) there were five great, powerful nations in Europe: Britain France RussiaAustria-Hungary Germany These countries had empires and armies. Between 1900 and 1914 tension and arguments began to cause trouble. The five main countries began an ‘arms race’, they were trying to amass troops, weapons and war ships. Remember that powerful country called Austria-Hungary? The heir to the Austrian Hungarian throne was a man called Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated – this caused lots of trouble between the five rival nations. Britain declared war on 4th August 1914. Article on the assassination of the Archduke. The total number of casualties, both military and civilian, were about 37 million. 16 million deaths. 21 million wounded. About 1.1million British troops died. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Lest we forget…

Celebrate Black History Month with two excellent powerpoints and some great worksheets. Lots of great info on Aboriginal art. Kids of all abilities will love this. Absorbing and great for afternoon art work.

A short play on the Romans. Great for a quick ten minute assembly or a part of a fun lesson.

Four Weeks Gandhi work. Plus stuff on Roald Dahk Matilda. All on word documents. lots of great ideas. A few other goodies thrown in for good measure. Plenty of grammar as well with some great powerpoints. the zip file contains loads. I have uploaded a few examples too so you get the feel. sample planning : L.O: Understand who Mahatma Gandhi was. Success Criteria  Use limited information to deduce and infer.  Describe why Mahatma Gandhi was so well known and influential.  Consider what you would like to find out about him. Start by showing the phrase ‘An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.’ In table groups discuss what you think this means and what type of person you think may have said it. Feedback, discuss and put on working wall. Reveal that it was a man called Mahatma Gandhi who said this. Show the trailer to ‘Gandhi’ DVD (1982). All groups to complete a KWL grid. What do I know? What do I want to know? What have I learnt? APP links: L.O: Use L5 adjectives to analyse a real character from history. Success Criteria  Take useful notes on a subject.  Generate L5 adjectives and phrases.  Use alliteration if possible. Use PowerPoint to discuss Gandhi’s life further – children to make notes in SODA books. Give each pair a minute to decide on one fact they think should be on working wall. Make notes on working wall about his life to include: Helped free Indian people from British Rule Non violent protest based on courage and truth Different ways of protesting Started in South Africa then India Governments were forced to listen to him and negotiate Encouraged people to make their own resources rather than buying British. Used fasting as a protest and a penance Spent time in prison Is known as the ‘Father of the Nation’ Birthday is a public holiday in India. Children to have a picture of Gandhi in the middle of their page. Annotate with L5 adjectives and phrases to describe him. Fire group (AA): Extended by CN to include alliterative phrases that could be newspaper headlines of his life. Water Group (A): Working independently. Air group (BA): Supported by assistant.

My planning and worksheets from various schools on Divali and associated themes. Lots of ideas you can hone. Colourful powerpoints you can show and add material to. sample To use skimming and scanning skills to read information texts and identify the main features in structure and language. I can identify the features of an information text. I can create subheadings for my information text. I can choose relevant information for my note taking. Starter: Go over what skimming and scanning skills are with the class. What is the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts? Think of as many features as you can. Introduction: Explain that by the end of the week we will be making some informative leaflets, however, we must first research what we would like to include within our leaflets. What is an information text? What does it do? Look at the leaflets on your tables. Create a checklist as a table. Introduction (what is the text about?) Each paragraph is a main idea. Sub headings Questions to make the reader think Use formal and impersonal language. Talk about ‘people’ and ‘they’. Try not to use personal pronouns, such as I or me. Stick to the facts Some descriptive phrases Conclusion to sum up. Diagrams Technical vocabulary Text boxes Present tense Third person This will be used later on to inform them of their own structure and design for their leaflet. Move onto Diwali and researching the topic: What do you already know about Diwali? Let’s share our ideas. What questions do we want to know the answers to? Today, you are going to start your research for your information text on Diwali. Think of a title Think of your sub headings (nice to have a question) Collect your notes (what skills will you be using? Skim, scan, note). Collect diagrams (make notes as to where they are) Chn to be given a grid to write their four question on that they will then research. In your notes: Get as much technical vocabulary as you can. Get as much information as you can. Main: To collect notes for your information texts from iPads. Look at Kidrex. Including videos
