A lesson explaining the Spanish attempted invasion during the reign of Elizabeth I in 1588.
This lesson is intended for GCSE History (Edexcel) on Early Elizabethan England. It could easily be adapted for other boards or key stages.
It covers the battle in several stages and the students move sweets around a map (and eat them).
I hope you enjoy it. I have animated the slides and made it as fun and engaging as possible.
I have used a card sort given freely from another teacher who shared on a facebook group (I added a less able version) and the plenary is from Jivespin's website, they are made using Halftone in Ipad (a useful app, worth getting). A lesson for Year 9 that discusses life in Berlin, the Berlin Wall and some of the best escapes that were made during the Cold War.
This lesson has an element using Elton John's Nikita, to help students consider life in a divided city.
The main task involves reading about then planning your own escape from USSR held Berlin. It works best with some music from The Great Escape.
At the end if you have time remaining, the end of the wall is discussed and there is a video to watch.

This lesson continues the Tudor era explorers unit. It looks at the colony in Virginia established by the British and the encounters with the Native Americans. It then compares the Disney version of Pocahontas to that of the real story.
