Making Maths Memorable

Average Rating4.29
(based on 53 reviews)

Ever since my PGCE I have been convinced that every Maths topic has a unique and interesting way to be taught. 7 years later and I have collected and created 100s of resources to prove my point. All resources, including IB and A Level, are designed to be thoroughly engaging but yet cover every bit of content required with plenty of practise too. Teach LCM with the life of the Cicada bugs or teach proportions using celebrity faces and the golden ratio. All fully animated engaging powerpoints.

I have split the entire course into 10 lessons (content includes much more!). Each lesson includes a bank of exam questions related to the topics with answers; a PowerPoint; Extra questions; and a 20 minute test. The tests are written from the "Extra questions" so be aware if you are using the "Extra Questions" in class. Easily more than 10 lessons worth but use it as you choose. I revised one lesson, tested (and peer marked) the next lesson and began the revision for the following section. *** 100s of exam questions *** *** 10 revision lesson PowerPoints *** *** 10 mini tests ***

Created by professor Bongard to test peoples ability to recognise patterns. Students of all abilities seem to enjoy these. Students need to recognise what the pictures on the left have in common in which the pictures on the right do not.

3D coordinates

It took some time to create the 3D alphabet coordinates grid but it works brilliantly to introduce the 3rd dimension in coordinates. The lesson and worksheets advance to using a coordinate grid more like those found the the GCSE exam.

This resource can be spread over 2 or 3 lessons depending how deep you want to go into correlation. Lesson 1 will cover the basics. I use lesson 2 in the PowerPoint more like a mini project but can be skipped if required. Lesson 3 is more based on higher level thinking trying to find the equations of lines of best fits and use extrapolation.

End of Year Maths Quiz Builder

A selection of rounds to help build any quiz for any class. Fun but still involves a lot of maths. I find the 4 rounds lasts about an hour. This resource has 8 rounds in total for you to select from. Rounds include picture rounds, a movie round, a music round and even a table topper all involving maths. I built it to be used and reused every year with different year groups. One less lesson I have to plan! With a bit of forward planning I managed to use it as an online virtual quiz too!

The Lockdown Maths Quiz

A quiz built from my “End of Year Maths Quiz Builder” resource. I used Teams to share my screen with the students and instructed them to make their own mini groups on Teams just in text conversation so they can discuss answers. Keep track of scores using the Excel spreadsheet and be ready to send files to students for different rounds. It was a little time consuming but I got students to send their answers to me and then I sent them out to other teams for marking between each round. Good luck and stay safe!

Easy lessons to pull out when you haven't quite found the time to plan something. Lessons that add to their mathematical knowledge but can easily be slotted in mid topic. Some of these work perfectly for end of term lessons when students ask "Are we going to do something fun today?"

Escape room (Numeracy Lv1) - The Perfect End of Term lesson

This activity runs on OneNote so students will need access to a computer. As it is done using online OneNote they do not need an account for it - just click the link and go! The powerpoint is for teachers reference to help guide students when they get stuck - the answers to each room can be found in the NOTES part of the Powerpoint. The only way I know to share this with students is using a share link which shares my original uneditable OneNote file. This does mean you will not be able to edit anything. If you spot a mistake, tell me and I will fix my original file and this will in turn fix it for anyone using the share link! If for some reason the share link stops working - just let me know and I will send you another share link. I have put the share link at the start of the powerpoint. HOW IT WORKS: Send the share link to students. DO NOT send the powerpoint to students. Each page represents a room which gives a code to access the password protected next page. Their aim is to access the final page. It works better in pairs. The Powerpoint is just for you. You only need to share the link with them. The final room tells you the 4 digit code to “the safe”. I have an actual small safe i bought online which i can easily change the code to and just put a bag of sweets in it. You could just tell them to “escape” to win or tell you the code to the safe to win. Content: This covers Geometry topics aimed at years 7 and 8 which are - Types of number Timestables Factors and multiples Magic Squares Division
