For several years I worked with Easylearn publishers, developing resources for children struggling with English and Maths. I am one of the creators of the Froggy Match-it phonics app, which helps beginner readers to learn to read and spell effectively.

The three Puzzle it Out books offer a variety of motivating word puzzles and games. The Puzzle it Out books appeal to a wide age range, from the very young to older pupils who are still having problems with phonics. They can be used alongside any phonic programme. Many activities are ideal for collaborative work in pairs or groups. Little teacher intervention is required and many sheets have a ‘grown up’ feel. Book 1 concentrates on consonant-vowel-consonant words,double final consonants and adjacent consonants. Book 2 looks at long vowel phonemes, including alternative spellings and split digraphs. Book 3 deals with vowel phonemes not covered in book 2, e.g. vowels modified by r, and ow as in cow. Previously sold through Easylearn.

The sheets and tasks help pupils to focus on the three letters b, d,and p and to discriminate between them, and are ideal for those pupils who have persistent problems with letter reversals. All three books are suitable for less-skilled readers. Book 1 is particularly suitable for beginner readers and can be used by pupils who have just learnt the single letter graphemes/phonemes. Book 2 can be used by pupils who have just learn to read and spell words with long vowel phonemes and adjacent consonants. Book 3 contains a variety of phonic constructions and is more suited to older pupils. The straightforward layout and clear instructions enable pupils to work independently. These 3 books provide direct practice in the rules of grammar and enable pupils to use a range of punctuation correctly. First Stop covers the first, basic elements of punctuation: capital letters and full stops, uses of capitalisation and question marks. It is excellent for younger pupils and those with special needs and is suitable for a wide age range. Vocabulary is limited and the motivating tasks can be completed independently. Stop it! comprises a practical, ready- made supply of punctuation exercises and covers use of full stops, capital letters, apostrophes, speech marks etc. Stop it, Editor! covers similar areas to Stop it! but in a more editorial style. This book is full of tasks pupils enjoy, such as finding mistakes, marking and correcting texts. It is perfect to use alongside Stop it! as it consolidates skills using a different approach.
