This is a lesson plan and resources to teach children about Lent and why Christians perform good deeds during Lent. It is suitable for ages 7-11. The 4 page plan (pdf) includes details of a starter, an introduction to a parable, a writing task and a philosophical discussion for the plenary. It contains learning objectives for three levels of abilities. Each comprehension contains a short piece of text with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures to help the children work out what they say. This is a plan for a Christmas assembly on the Annunciation (when Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel), with a focus on promises and trust. There is an attached PowerPoint with the assembly starter and the story of the Annunciation. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves the children discussing promises made by various people in their lives before listening to the story and again discussing. There is a lot of opportunity for children to think about their own experiences and to feedback. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with. This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 4-7. The plans are very detailed (9 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year. Lesson 1 contains a brief overview of Judaism and Purim. Lesson 2 focuses on the story of brave Queen Esther. Lesson 3 teaches the children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim. Each lesson starts with a carpet session. The children then split into five groups for activities. These include drawing, storytelling, dressing up and crafts. Across the three lessons the children have the opportunity to do all of the activities. The plans could be combined into one lesson with the children only doing one or two activities. There are three differentiated levels of objectives. There is an optional 18 slide PowerPoint to accompany the lessons which tells the story of Queen Esther and how Jewish people celebrate Purim. (This is non-editable.
