There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘when,’ ‘where’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. This resource is a non-fiction comprehension booklet aimed at Lower Key Stage 2 (7-9 yrs). The theme for the booklet is harvest around the world and covers Thanksgiving in the USA, rice festivals in Asia, the yam festival in Ghana, a fruit festival in Thailand, the Jewish holiday Sukkot and the harvest moon festival in China. It is a perfect comprehension to use during the autumn term, but could be used throughout the year, as harvest is celebrated at different times of the year around the world.
There are three differentiated booklets. The higher ability booklet has two pages of information for the children to read before they complete 2 pages of ‘what,’ ‘when,’ ‘who’ and ‘why’ questions. There are also true or false, multiple choice questions and some that require more detailed answers. There are 15 questions in total. The middle and lower ability booklets have the information split into four pages with questions on each page. The middle ability has 13 questions and the lower ability has 12 questions in total.
There is a colour and black & white booklet for each level. Answers are also included.

This resource is a fictional comprehension activity for year 1. It tells the traditional tale of Beauty and the Beast and includes 3 differentiated levels. There is a colour and black & white version of each level.
Each level contains three short pieces of text with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures to help children work out what they say. Each passage is followed by 5 simple questions.
There is also a PowerPoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text from the middle ability so that you can go through the comprehensions before the children complete them. This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 4-7. The plans are very detailed (9 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year.
Lesson 1 contains a brief overview of Judaism and Purim. Lesson 2 focuses on the story of brave Queen Esther. Lesson 3 teaches the children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim.
Each lesson starts with a carpet session. The children then split into five groups for activities. These include drawing, storytelling, dressing up and crafts. Across the three lessons the children have the opportunity to do all of the activities. The plans could be combined into one lesson with the children only doing one or two activities. This is an assembly for Mother’s Day, with a focus on a Bible quote. There is a 4 page pdf plan and a 20 slide animated PowerPoint (non-editable- click ‘Read Only’ to open). In this assembly, children are encouraged to think about what they learn from their parents. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! Both the plan and PowerPoint can be used on their own or together to suit your needs. You can also jump to different sections of the PowerPoint.
I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves discussions and a long anecdote on some childhood incidents where the assembly leader did not follow their parents’ rules. This resource is a set of 5 Art lessons based around the theme of India for KS1.
The key skills that are taught include collaborative art skills, simple sculpture and using paint and other materials to create pictures and crafts.
The children work together creating a city skyline, before moving on to making elephants, diva lamps, rangoli patterns and fireworks pictures during the unit. The plans are very detailed and include templates, simple powerpoints and website links. There are details of curriculum links and lists of any art resources you will need to set out before the class starts. I have also included photos of the completed art projects from when I used this plan with my year 1 class.
