This is a lesson plan and resources to teach children about Lent and why Christians perform good deeds during Lent. It is suitable for ages 7-11. The 4 page plan (pdf) includes details of a starter, an introduction to a parable, a writing task and a philosophical discussion for the plenary. It contains learning objectives for three levels of abilities.
A 21 slide animated PowerPoint (non-editable - click 'Read Only' to open) containing the starter, information about Lent, suggested good deeds and an illustrated version of the parable is also included, as is an optional template for the written task. No further preparation required!

This resource is a comprehension activity based on the year 6 reading comprehension SATs paper.
The theme for the comprehension is the story of Jesus’ arrest before Good Friday, which I have rewritten to resemble the style of the reading paper.
I have included 3 differentiated levels. The Higher Ability level (781 words) is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the Middle Ability (654 words) and Lower Ability (564 words) use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet. Each level contains a 3 page reading booklet and an accompanying 4 page question booklet, which contains a range of questions based on past papers. There are also example answers.

This is a 5 lesson Literacy unit all about Edith Cavell. The plan is aimed at year 2 and gives details of the year 2 curriculum objectives covered. The children develop reading comprehension, writing, editing and SPaG skills during the unit.
All five lessons include a SPaG starter which is always linked to Edith Cavell.
The main activity in lesson 1 is a non-fiction reading comprehension, which helps children to learn about Edith. It is laid out in a SATs style format, containing similar questions to a SATs paper and is differentiated 3 ways.
The main activity in lesson 2 is a newspaper comprehension, written from the point of view of a British reporter the day after Edith was shot. Again it contains SATs style questions and is differentiated 3 ways. Please note the 'Preview Page' shows the newspaper report with sections blacked out.
Lesson 3 allows children to gather ideas through drama and written activities. Lessons 4 and 5 allow children to write and edit their own newspapers about Edith Cavell.
