Created for lower ability Y7 and Y8. This one hour lesson explores the different types of non-fiction texts and who the intended audience could be for each one. This is in preparation for AQA language paper 2 schemes of work and prior to the classes exploring complete texts. Planned with the TEEP cycle.

A simple lesson PPT to teach basic inference and language analysis. Use of inkblot and photograph tasks to build the skill of finding explicit information and using that to make inferences. Bleak house extract leads to an essay question and plenary practicing those skills.

Sheets to aid planning before a piece of descriptive writing. Images show beaches but can be adapted to any image or purpose. Use in conjunction with a thesaurus to drive ambitious choices. Asks the pupils to consider adjectives alongside descriptive verbs and nouns, using senses and considering basic language devices. Finally, extending into trial sentences ready for modeled slow writes.

Creative writing lesson beginning with analysis and selection of language devices and vocabulary from the opening of ‘Of Mice and Men’. Students then create their own piece of scaffolded creative writing using ambitious vocabulary, key language devices and structure. Includes scaffolded worksheet with writing space. Ideal for cover work.

A brief lesson looking at Human Rights as context for novels that deal with Human Rights issues. Used as context for Migrant Voices texts such as ‘The Bone Sparrow’.

A very basic themes grid to help year 11 track their anthology poetry by theme. This can be a very helpful visual for some learners and has supported my LA students.
