A-Level Study Skills: How to Prep for In Class Timed Essays

This PowerPoint is a great general resource for all A-Level subjects that are essay based. It was originally designed for A-Level Law but I have also used it for A-Level Religious Studies. You may want to edit it slightly for your own subject but it is vague enough in its terminology that it can be used for almost anything without editing! The short PowerPoint goes through the ten steps necessary to prep for an in class essay, breaking each step down. This is great for Year 12 students who do not yet have the skills to prepare for essays effectively. Steps included are: Compile Information Create a Rough Plan Create Your Final Plan First Timed Practice Revise Plan Write Without Notes & Mark Revise Plan Timed Practice Without Notes & Mark Revise Final Essay I recommend adding some modeling into the lesson which focuses on your specific subject.

Plenary Dice Template

This template allows you to make your own plenary dice. Print it out and then glue the tabs to assemble your dice. Students can then roll the dice and answer the question to check understanding. Each side has a different task to complete. They are general enough that they would suit several subjects. I have used these from KS3 through to KS5. I recommend using thicker card to print on or stick the dice to in order to give it stability.

Time Until Exams Classroom Display - GCSE & A-Level

This is a fun little A4 poster to display in your classroom to let students know how long they have until their exams. You can add dates, a day countdown or number of lessons left. I prefer to add number of days until the exam. There is space to write the subject at the top and then space for up to three different papers. Designed for A-Level but would also be suitable for GCSE and other qualifications such as BTECS.
