Introductory info for GCSE and A-level
A powerpoint clearly showing what is style visually but also showing how people interpret the same subject matter differently. To clearly understand what is a style?
Slides showing how style is grouped by culture, country, period, artist periods, time, and art movement.
Lots of questions and discussions about what makes a style.
Lesson Objective
To understand what is Style in Art? To develop a deeper understanding of how artists are grouped together.
To begin to analyse and question and discuss various artworks
To look at examples of elements of Art and principles of design.
To define each Art element and respond by making own interpretation
To define each Art Principle and respond by making own interpretation
Also after this a list of all the elements of art with good examples of artworks on each element. For example what is a line, shape, pattern, texture…?
A list of all the principles of Design with good examples of artworks on each principle explaining what is Balance, Rhythm, Harmony…?
Tasks are included Discussions on style and then completing an artwork for each principle and design and element of art.
Excellent introductory powerpoint for GCSE or A-level
Students to be given a strip of paper and fold this into 8 sections. On the end two folds students make a front cover.
There is a You tube video link to this project.
In the six sections in the middle of the fold out paper there are 6 tasks for each of the elements of art.
Line, Shape, Colour, Texture, Space and Value.
Students on the one side of the fold out write information about the element and on the other side students are to do a drawing of the element as a creative response to each element
This is a fun project and the outcomes are successful.
These tasks relate to understanding the key building bricks in Art: Elements of Art and the principles of design and should give you 12 weeks of tasks for students to make two booklets.
Making a booklet on the elements of art and then one on the principles of design.
Understanding these key terms helps in enabling students to write about art and if this is completed at Key Stage 3 can be a real help at GCSE and A-level
Students make a fold out booklet of each of the principles.
Video clip on how to make a booklet and then to make each fold on each principle. This powerpoint gives a slide for each principle and students need to make each side of the booklet as creative as they can. One side is the explanation of each principle and the other side one’s own interpretation.
The powerpoint has examples of artwork of each principle to help students to develop their own ideas.
Sheets are copied and students follow making a booklet where one side of the booklet is to give information and definitions on the principles and the other side of the booklet is the student’s own interpretation of the principle.
There are prompts given on each slide explaining what is required for students to write on each principle and examples of what is expected for the student to gather some notes on each principle.

DOING A DRAWING IN A PHOTOGRAPH
Steps for success
Take a photograph and load this up on a Powerpoint.
Do a drawing to add to this photograph. Load this up on the powerpoint over the photograph. Remove backgrounds. Look at the examples of Pencil and Camera on slide 2 and 3.
You could try make it quirky, personal or relate to your situation.
It must not be an exact copy of the photograph but be combined in an original quirky way.
You may add in interesting ideas that change the photograph

There are various historical examples to show the early print works and how they developed.
Also linking to projects for students to get ideas to develop their own work.
Each printing technique has You Tube clips with specific tasks in the presentation.

It is good to use to give students an introduction to how Modern Art developed and enables them to see the development towards the modern era.
This is a resource of examples of artists who use text in their artwork and there are some examples of artists who show movement in their work.
There is also an activity to collage a set of black and white newspaper/magazine and make your own version creatively using text to show movement.
A set of 8 slides which describe the key characteristics of Dadaism and gives some examples of their works and looks at Surrealism and gives examples of some Surrealist artists.
To use as worksheets in class where students can read about the movements and develop an understanding on the movements.

The song In A Gadda Da Vida inspired an exhibition of work at the Tate Gallery. This powerpoint just highlights the work at the gallery and gives examples of the Garden of Eden by different artists. There is also a link to a You Tube clip of the original song.
There are two tasks ;
Making your name with zentangle patterns- there are student outcomes and sheets to support this activity.
Students to work in groups making a letter to put together into a word. making a large cardboard letter and use paper craft- ~coiling and quilling to embellish

Students Learn to do lettering and patterns and to make a 3D constuction of letters
Students learn to do block lettering :
Every letter should be 3 blocks across and 5 letters down. The only letters that are different are M which is 4 across and 5 down and W is 5 across and 5 down.
Learning to coil with paper craft students each develop their own letter working in a group. Students to choose one word in a group and to draw the letters of the word out BIG on cardboard
Students Practice drawing out boldly own name using the block lettering sheets provided to support.
