Algebraic Expressions and Equations - Team Activity

(0)
An activity designed for students working in teams. Initial starter on Whiteboard, then students must enter the correct codes into the excel spreadsheet (correct answers turn cells green) in order to be the best performing team. I only let the students input their answers into the spreadsheet three times during the lesson and only make one correction.

(0)
This is an excellent trading game activity to be run after teaching students geometric constructions (check out my FREE carousel lesson) Read the lesson plan carefully for the extra equipment needed. For the money I simply used monopoly money templates but I cannot upload those here for copyright reasons

Mixed Numbers and Top Heavy or Improper Fractions

(0)
To use this lesson you will need a decent sized quantity of multi-link cubes or similar for the "Chocolate Factory" - the worksheet has two routes depending on how confident the students are at converting each type of fraction.

Types of Number - Factors, Squares, Multiples, Primes

(0)
A way of combining recognising types of number for lower ability students in KS4 or KS3 with the new Venn Diagrams element of the KS4 maths curriculum. You may also need some bingo books to use as a plenary activity for this lesson - see my Primes Bingo Resource.
Solving Equations

Angles in Parallel Lines

(0)
A comprehensive booklet and series of activities for students to draw and discover the main angle facts surrounding parallel lines, with plenty of practice. It would be useful if students had some form of A/B/C/D voting system for this lesson
Straight Line Graphs

Solving Equations with Subject on Both sides

(0)
A complete lesson on solving equations, with a literacy element in the worksheet. The starter gets students to form expressions of equal value which is the basis of how you can demonstrate solving, and then some useful ways to explain using bags of sweets and loose sweets!

Terminating and Recurring Decimals - Recurring Decimals to Fractions

(1)
A big value bundle which would form the basis of a 2 or 3 lesson block on this topic. First lesson - why do some decimals terminate and some decimals recur? - getting students to find for themselves through division and investigation that this relates to the prime factors of the denominator. Second / Third lesson - plenty of work / practice including a well graded Mild / Hot / Spicy / Inferno sheet for this tricky topic.
Simplifying Algebraic Fractions

Simplifying Algebraic Fractions

(0)
A straightforward lesson and differentiated or staged worksheet for simplifying algebraic fractions. We start with simple multiplication / division and then through expressions which require factorising. Perfect for Middle ability Y11’s, a brighter group might want some further examples of non-monic quadratics as an extension activity. October 2021. Updated to include a powerpoint version for non Notebook users.
