Lesson based on the Sikh story of Duni Chand and the value of generosity. Guru Nanak reminds the greedy Duni Chand that when you die, you cannot take material possessions and wealth with you. Encourages children to act out the story and decide what Duni Chand could have done with his wealth. Also attached a homework sheet for children to explore words associated with generosity. Lesson taken from the Leicester SACRE RE Syllabus KS1 unit of Beginning to learn about the Sikhs: symbols, stories and sharing. Information on Lord Shiva, as well as the Hindu story of the Great River: how the River Ganges came to be. A Hindu creation story involving the Goddess Ganga who became the river to save the earth from burning. Lord Shiva realised the world would be destroyed from the floods, so stood on the earth and took the mighty force of the waterfall, changing the water into 7 streams of water. This water became the Ganges (or Ganga). Thanks to authorstream for some of the information on Lord Shiva.
