I set h/w to use books to make notes on the diazonium ion (will have interesting results). I start lesson by offering pupils a selection of sweets (including skittles) and then put up first slide. Would they allow their children to eat these sweets? after this lesson we do the prac to make an azo dye

tutorial explaining how to write formulae and equations. also a worksheet - I give this out before starting to teach 'balancing equations&'. It saves a lot of time answering the same questions!

i start the lesson with a wham bottle demo (for extra entertainment tell pupils they need to look and listen carefully because the reaction can be hard to notice). I demo the citric acid prac in a balloon, so they can all feel how cold it gets.
