Hello Amazing Fellow Educators! I´m Danicka. I graduated with a teaching specialization in French as an Additional Language from the University of Toronto in June 2022. I am currently an IB French Teacher for the Middle Years and Diploma Programs. I bring extensive experience in teaching French to diverse learners. This summative evaluation can be used in your DP1 French (niveau moyen = standard level) and niveau supérieur = higher level) classrooms to evaluate your students´ writing skills. This evaluation has been adapted following the theme of “L´organisation sociale” (Social Organisation) as per the DP IB Language B curriculum expectations. The evaluation is based on the movie “Le Comte du Monte Cristo” (2002). Students will need to watch the movie in class before you have them do their summative evaluation on it.

This thematic Valentine’s day activity can be used in your French language classroom to get your beginner students to practice their writing skills by writing short sentences about what they like, love, and are grateful for. The second part of this activity focuses on having them write about kind actions that can demonstrate towards the special people in their life (whomever that may be to them (ex. parent(s), sibling(s), friends, etc.) Sentence prompts are provided. It would be helpful to give them a vocabulary sheet or visual aid with a list of adjectives along with this activity (unless they have already learned about adjectives of personality.)

This activity is a great way to introduce a bit of French culture into your French classroom for your beginner students. They will be able to “visit” Paris, France with a young girl named Betty as shown in the video and then answer three short answer questions related to the video. Sentence starters are provided, but can be removed from the Word document if your students are more advanced. The YouTube link to the video is provided on the document.
