I taught in a range of schools for many years before moving into FE, where I found creative and imaginative approaches just as rewarding with adults. Most of my resources are concerned with giving control to the learner, through a range of methods. Some are great for just giving them experience of examination questions, and the chance to discuss these with other learners. I now concentrate on spreading the range of creations from UK KS1 to KS4, and across the Common Standards.

KS4 Maths Activity: Algebra card matching.

Algebra expression cards. Algebraic statements in symbols, with with corresponding word descriptions, and representations as areas in the plane, along with function tables. Match up any sets you like - words and symbols seem to go down well, along with the pictorial representation.

Simple 2D and 3D shapes for revision at any stage. Made originally for Functional Skills

Sarah needed a simple activity to remind her functional skills learners of the names of plane and solid shapes, so I quickly made this. The plan is to show the name and the properties, and the learners sketch the shape. Unfortunately I couldn't get the animation to work, so I've built up the slides to show possible results. You can easily remove the properties - change as you like. I've lots more stuff on TES on plane and solid shapes, if you look at my shop. Plus the net of a box. The plan is to get the learners to adapt this to make a box to hold four cup-cakes. And an activity of making a box to hold cup-cakes. Enjoy.

Fractions; dividing whole numbers and mixed numbers by unit fractions. Clear, colourful presentation

(3)
Clear presentation with lots of opportunities to engage the learners, and questions for the class to try. 40+ slides that take the learners from simple problems to seeing why we do what we do when we divide fraction by fractions. Dividing by unit fractions in this presentation. Dividing by non-unit fractions, and mixed numbers, to come later. Great for first introduction in KS3, or revision in KS4.

I got this idea from Jim Smith and his book 'The Lazy Teacher&'s Handbook&';. I can thoroughly recommend the book as full of ideas for teachers and learners. I took the recently published guidance from Edexcel on what the examiners expect in terms of 'why&' in geometry questions, added some images, and produced a simple slideshow to loop whilst the learners are revising questions themselves.

Times tables

Very simple times tables in lists and tables - a dozen of one and half a dozen of the other.

Geoboard Templates

Learners always need practical activities - colourful and kinaesthetic as they remind me, and Geoboards are great way of showing so much to do with shape and space. I've done simple templates, for learners to record, and also for using on a Smartboard. A variety of formats, with a few simple questions, but lots more can be asked. An &'open&'; resource for all types of thing.

Multiple Choice PowerPoint Foundation GCSE or KS3

Modular GCSE questions from multiple choice modular papers, now defunct but great for variety. Suitable for KS3 or KS4. I've previously added these in Word, and now adding PowerPoint. Part 1 are the easy questions, part 2 are slightly harder.

Some puzzle and some displays to generate thinking, or just to plaster the walls - get ready for September, or any time. (If anyone would prefer word versions, send me a message and I'll post them up.)

I actually wrote this for the Teaching Agency numeracy skills test - I'm helping a few people to pass this hurdle, hopefully. However, it has equal application in the classroom for KS3 and KS4. I also used it with Functional Skills, having changed the context to make it more vocational. FS invloves only mean and range, it is good to seperate the different measures in the mind of the learner.

Percentages in shopping - reductions

A very short worksheet with four examples of price reductions - which one represents the greatest percentage discount? Alternately all on one slide of PowerPoint, plus the solutions on the same Powerpoint. Twenty minute activity, warm up, revision etc. (And I've corrected a mistake on the baguettes question and answer, I hope.)

Maths Statistics Higher Tier KS4 GCSE; two sets multiple-choice questions. Starters, H/W, plenary

(1)
Statistics questions from a variety of past examination papers, suitably changed, and some new ones created to reflect the 2017 examination, with multiple choice answers added by me. Not yet trailed in the classroom so please advise me of any mistakes. Great for all sorts of things, and easily cut and pasted into shorter versions. Answers to follow, but shouldn't be too difficult to work out.
