I taught in a range of schools for many years before moving into FE, where I found creative and imaginative approaches just as rewarding with adults. Most of my resources are concerned with giving control to the learner, through a range of methods. Some are great for just giving them experience of examination questions, and the chance to discuss these with other learners. I now concentrate on spreading the range of creations from UK KS1 to KS4, and across the Common Standards.

KS3 - derive and apply formulae to calculate volume of cuboids (including cubes) and other prisms. Worksheet/activity to recap simple area, a presentation in PowerPoint to get the learners thinking about volume of cubes, cuboids and prisms, then assorted worksheets presenting prisms in a variety of ways, including those drawn on isometric grids. In PDF or Word for editing and adopting.

KS4 GCSE Foundation and Higher Tiers. Three PowerPoint presentations including multiple choice quiz. Plus two worksheets of GCSE exam-style questions. • generate terms of a sequence from either a term-to-term or a position-to-term rule • recognise and use sequences of triangular, square and cube numbers, simple arithmetic progressions, Fibonacci type sequences, quadratic sequences, and simple geometric progressions (rn where n is an integer, and r is a rational number >0) • deduce expressions to calculate the nth term of linear sequences

KS3/KS4. Averages of grouped data. Data in class intervals. Practical examples & worksheets. F&H

The motivation for this was the difficulty Foundation learners have with averages of grouped data, and no doubt many Higher learners too. I’ve spent years trying to demonstrate the interval in which the median lies, and watched learners who appeared to follow the method for mean of grouped data, only to watch them go to pieces on tests. So this time I went for kinaesthetic and colourful, my main aim always. The documents are in Word so you can cut my photo if you want. I’ve thrown in a couple of real questions, and there are plenty more about, but very easy to make up in this style. All images (c)2015 Colin Billett

A set of great stuff for theoretical and practical lessons on probability. Lots of questions, a PowerPoint introduction that can be fitted in at any time, a quiz that could end one lesson or start another, and events for printing on cards and sorting into order of likelihood. Plus a set of questions from across the years in KS2 for recap and revision. Enough for a couple of lessons, and lots of photographs that will give you and the learners ideas for creating your own questions. All images (c)2015 Colin Billett

GCSE Maths Higher Speed Distance and Time

GCSE Maths Higher Speed Distance and Time questions in PowerPoint. Some a bit easy, to keep the learners going, and some introducing other concepts, like bounds, gradients, and areas under a curve. A new design for use in classroom discussions or on Zoom - questions on the left of the screen with a blank space on the right for filling in the answers - great for letting the learners try their answers to the tutor or the whole class. Two versions - one with solutions after each slide, and one with solutions at the end.

Key Stage 2 Fractions - huge bundle of stuff.

Lots of resources covering fractions in KS2, so great for revision in KS3 and Foundation GCSE. Equivalent fractions, ordering fractions, and four rules of fractions. Addition and subtraction moves from same denominator, through one denominator a multiple of the other, to different denominators. Multiplication and division develops in the same way - simple stages. I've lots of stuff free on fractions, so check the free stuff first if you like. Save 77%!

Linear functions and graphs

Two PowerPoint lessons on straight line graphs, covering all aspects of GCSE Foundation, then Higher Tier mathematics: plot graphs of equations that correspond to straight-line graphs in the coordinate plane; use the form y = mx + c to identify parallel and perpendicular lines; find the equation of the line through two given points or through one point with a given gradient identify and interpret gradients and intercepts of linear functions graphically and algebraically Clear presentations with lots of opportunities for learner engagement, and great for use on Zoom or other distance learning opportunities. Can be used simultaneously with learners in a classroom and at home.
